Hello all

I am newly minted SPG platinum member and have booked a special getaway at Sheraton Melbourne in November on a Saturday night. Can anyone share their experiences as an SPG Plat staying at this hotel ?
Did you get an upgrade to a better room category, is mini suite or club room ?

thanks

I am a gold SPG member and stay at Sheraton Melbourne regularly. This is a "boutique" style of hotel, with only 174 rooms and 11 suites. There are no club rooms, nor is there an executive lounge. There are 4 categories of rooms, most of which are a similar size, but with different aspects. I have mostly been upgraded one or two categories of room on staying. Imagine as a platinum you would get better or at least similar upgrades depending on occupancy. However with so few suites I don't know what your chances are of getting a suite upgrade.
If you intend to eat there on Saturday night I suggest you book in advance, as following an upgrade to their buffet offering they can be heavily booked.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but in regards to upgrades. Would you basically book a lower rate room, and then when you check in, hope through your Gold or Platnium status that the hotel upgrades you for free? Therefore you always book a lower fee room?

That's exactly what I do. Platinum basically guarantees you an upgrade up to executive suites if there are enough rooms available.

Nice! Thanks for the response. Makes sense I suppose. Why spend the $$$ when you don't have to.
You just receive less points for the cash booking a lower rate room, but still get the rooms stays and status credits etc.
