Shoes and the new uniform (or any uniform for that matter)

May I be so bold to suggest that along with the introduction of the new uniform, there could be a push for clean and polished shoes to be mandatory.

Over recent years, I have seen many unloved, scuffed and tatty shoes on FA (both male and female) which really brings the professional look down . . . . .

The little I've seen of the new uniform looks great, so can I start the vote for starting from the ground up..???

You havnt worked hard enough if you don't have cough on your shoes. Can't say I even grade FA shoes, if they have legs worth looking at great, but my eyes don't generally turn to their feet, but each to their own

if he had of being wearing $1000 shoes, he still would have stood in all the same stuff along the way.

People, they are feet, do I need to wear gloves so as not to offend anyone with my bare hands, that by the way have spent the day touching all sorts of weird and wonderful things without being washed before I shook hands with you as I plonked myself next to you in 4C

Pretty sure he had a fungal problem as his toe nails were yellow and green, and gave off a foul odour. Why is that not enough for the CSM to disallow boarding or tell him to put some shoes on?

IIRC shoes are required on a flight. The passenger shouldn't have been allowed to board without them.

Well, just to get back on topic..??? as really, I voiced my thoughts on this as I thought it was a constructive thing to say in relation to how professional the staff of Qantas looked, and let's face it, is in their best interests to have the "face" of Qantas looking as good as it can.

Perhaps a new thread in order to comment on the niceties (or not) of passenger footwear..???

Well, just to get back on topic..??? as really, I voiced my thoughts on this as I thought it was a constructive thing to say in relation to how professional the staff of Qantas looked, and let's face it, is in their best interests to have the "face" of Qantas looking as good as it can.

I thought this was kind of a no-brainer.

Maybe not completely sparkling and spit polished all the time, but they must certainly be clean, and if they have lost some lustre then definitely a polish or a buff-up should be necessitated.

Surely anyone who must wear shoes for dress (i.e. as part of a wholly presentable outfit) should be following such guidelines, irrespective of career.

I realise FAs can be very busy people, but checking for stains on shoes and cleaning them off with a buffing or regular cloth to remove the stain can't be too much each day. If the stain happened that day then perhaps there is a reason for excuse. A buffing or shoe cloth can often make shoes give a nice lustre without the use of shoe polish; the polishing can be done periodically after washing the shoes.

Of course, as a male here, I'm mainly talking from my experience with male shoes. I have no idea if maintaining female (black) shoes follows a similar guideline.

For the flight safety reasons, pax should wear shoes not thong.

FWIW.. They also wear safety shoes for some flight modes.

Whenever I fly, (which is always in F or J, unless for work, damn you WoAG), I am always wearing a T-shirt, shorts and Birkenstock Sandals.

I raise your $10 Big W shoes with my $150 Birkenstocks

(though I shower in the lounge almost every time, so I'm usually clean and smelling of shower gel)

I don't know that there are any actual guidelines . . . for I would say the majority have quite scruffy looking shoes. I'm not talking about any dirt/stains that may have occurred as a result of work during a current shift, but more that they are unkempt and unpolished, showing weeks of neglect.

I guess I'm in the minority but I feel it does impinge in the professional appearance of the Qantas staff, and is something that could quite easily be addressed.

A stylish new uniform at any rate, deserves cared for shoes.

Some years ago with myself and SWMBO ensconced in 744 exit seats an immaculately dressed FA occupies the crew seat in front of us for take off.

She was wearing shiny black stilettos and I was thinking how inappropriate the would be for in flight service duty.

We should not have worried, since as soon as the seat belt signs flashed up she got and changed to perfectly functional (clean and neat) low heeled foot wear.

It was a VA flight from BNE. I think he carried his thongs through or maybe wore them, but as he sat down they were already off.
