Rather weak offer IMO, we spend that anyway, but bring back the trolley run:)

I too got this offer and activated it but cannot see me achieving the requisite spend.

I also gave them feedback saying I wanted points not fuel offers.

The fine print says that the gift cards will have an expiry date of 31/12/12, so only a few weeks to use it, rather than the usual 12 months.

I'm so glad that dollar notes don't have an expiry date!

Doesn't surprise me, gets you back in for your Xmas shop which they assume will be you spending big $$$$$

I bet these cards turn up around late Nov/Early Dec too :)

From an outsider's perspective it looks like they are refocusing their marketing budget towards the traditional mass market campaigns, possibly with "targeted" fuel offers on the side.

I hate to say it, but you may find the experts say that it is in their best interest to shelve the usual offers for the holiday season. Remember Joe Average often 'overspends' his or her usual spend level due to silly season events such as Christmas functions, overeating, family events, etc... As such the usual array of offers may not encourage any additional spend. However we can hope that all is not lost - product-specific offers can be very effective during the holiday season. Lets hope they are for points rather than BOGOF, etc.

I received a warning that this "Shop to Earn" deal was a scam.

Unfortunately the podcast where it was discussed is not available on the ABC website yet but this is all the info I have from a follow-up email:

It is a scam where they conduct a survey that includes supplying credit card details etc. Apparently the response site has now been blocked. The issue was discussed on Jon Faine’s show this morning.

That was for a $500 gift card promotion, and not this one!

I always struggle to spend $100 at a shop as I live alone... I have sometimes been at Coles or Woolies behind someone with a decently filled trolley that came to $100+ and when asked if they have Fly Buys or EDR etc they say no... I have thought about asking quickly if I could use my card for it... Guess that might be a way of getting $100+ spends, stand behind decently filled trolleys and hope the person doesn't have a card??? If the checkout person would allow it... :)

I've picked up extra school stickers and vouchers using this technique but I haven't done it with points. I have heard of at least one instance of this happening when the customer asked the person behind them if they wanted their card swiped. It depends on how lucky and brave you are when you ask the person in front of them if they have a card. Good luck.

How about shopping with friends or family and getting the combined basket total over $100.

I have done this before, but sometimes been met with a "Ummm NO" or a very confused expression

One issue with asking people to swipe your card is that the fuel voucher will go on your card rather than their receipt. You probably would be best asking whether they were planning to use the fuel voucher so there's no argument afterwards.

I've not done that, but I think it's important to note that for someone without an EDR card and driving, the fuel docket doesn't print at the bottom of the receipt if you swipe your card ;) that said, you could swap your low shop receipt for their high shop.

Edit: too slow :p
