Hi,

looking to go brisbane to rome in april next year one way,

i've found economy arriving 8am 22 hours
economy arriving 4pm 24 hours
and business rewards seat first leg then 2nd leg costing me 3k total time 28 hours arriving 8pm

4th option is i could do the first flight 22hours arriving 8m but i'd only get business rewards first leg and 2nd leg fly economy essentially paying the full price of the economy if i had just done that instead as they're only charging $100 for 2nd leg (12 hour flight).

which would you choose? 8am arrival after being economy will be rough, i can't sleep sitting up, never flown business but brother always does and at age where i really want to get sleep on a plane.

I would always pick business, regardless of how much longer it is.

1. Longer = more free food and alcohol.
2. Business class means you can work (or watch tv or whatever) while you fly and in the lounge, meaning no time is wasted.
3. Sleep, as you said.

Overall, unless you absolutely must arrive by some specific date/time that's impossible in business, there is in my view never any reason to book economy for a shorter flight.

If you don't mind the extra cost. Then definitely business class will be better, even better arriving at 8pm so you can go to bed a few hours after arriving.

Another common trick people use here, doing a short sector to SE Asia in economy and then business from somewhere in SE Asia to Europe. Often a lot cheaper than buying ex-Australia, although not always easy to get cheap one-way ($3k return is not uncommon though from SEA-Europe and back).

Manila using PR (it flies from BNE MEL PER or SYD to MNL NAIA T1) - travel agents often have the best prices, and then, on a separate PNR (ticket) book either online with the airline or through a travel agent WY or EY to Europe or UK.

PR is normally 1-2-1 in J to our two big cities: until at least early next year, it is using Wamos Air from/to SYD and MEL. 2-4-2 in Y, so fairly comfortable (a lot better than some airlines with 3-3-3).

BNE and PER normally have the A321s that are 2-2 (lie flat) in J or 3-3 in Y.

WY doesn't fly to Rome but it does to Milan: then the TrenNord airport train from MXP to Milano Centrale station followed by an Italian high speed train (choice of two operators: see www.seat61.com) to Roma Termini. Safe, normally super reliable and comfortable, especially if you travel in 1st.

WY is 2-2-2 in J but every seat has direct aisle access. Service on board excellent: dine on demand. It (and EY) are not dry airlines, thank goodness,

EY has engaged in cost cutting, but has dine on demand. Make sure you choose a forward-facing seat. Look up the Aerolopa site and match the plane type from a look at expertflyer.com . EY is 1-2-1 across in J.

I would avoid EK and QR from MNL to/from the Middle East as they use B777s with yukky seven across in J. You can do better with WY or EY.
