I have flights to the USA in November.
We won't be going.

I contacted Virgin and they said that because I used Points+Pay my points would be refunded to my account and I would get a "conditional credit" for the cash portion.
I read all the terms, I do have a trip planned to QLD that I could use the credit for in August.

Should I just cancel now or wait for the announcement of the buyer etc? The conditions made it sound like if I take the credit now It may or may not be honored by the new owner.
I'm not sure what I should do.

Both bidders have advised they'll be honoring credits and points.

However, considering the latest news I think all promises are out the window. Time will tell. We are using the conditional credits as best we can however considering our two main ports of call are QLD and SA our options are narrow.

The latest news wouldn't change the decision to honour credits. Both stated in their bids that they would do that.

Just wanted to write a follow up.
I ended up calling today to see what can be done.
First attempt I was cut off immediately due to too many people on hold. So I waited a few hours and tried again, was on hold for around 30mins and got to speak to a lovely Lady.
I gave my reservation number and explained that it was to the USA she said that my points would be returned to my Velocity account within 21 days and the money portion would be refunded to my credit card that I used to pay with.
So I'm extremely happy, I thought I'd get a conditional credit for the cash portion but no, I got an actual REAL refund.
While I was at it I booked some flight to QLD with my existing travel credit I just hope those borders open before August.

That's an excellent result.

I've just booked a trip for the wife to QLD (using travel bank credit) and am also hoping borders open by the time she's looking to fly in July..

As long as she's not flying from MEL (and you're not Victorian) she might be ok.

I also cancelled points redemption flights on Friday and was told 21 working days for the points to be back into my Velocity account and the charges back on my credit card.

Likewise here. Quick 3 minute call, same outcome. Very happy.

Thank you for posting your experience to follow OP!

Sad for those of us who paid in cash. I had a premium economy ticket to the US in August. The flight has been cancelled by Virgin. I am told I will have travel credits for domestic flights, but considering that I only fly to the US to see my kids these credits are useless to me. Any suggestions/help. It seems that I can only book domestic flights for myself in my reading, so I can't even gift them. Also, hold 500K points. Feeling pretty ripped off at the moment.

We currently hold tickets for the USA departing end of September - paid totally by Credit Card. The international flights have not been cancelled yet according to the VA and Velocity websites.

We obviously don't wish to travel to the USA anymore, but I don't want +$6,000 worth of "travel credits". My Travel Bank account is already overflowing from other cancelled domestic flights. And there's no way we'd spend that much on domestic flights in the near future.

Hoping (against hope) that there will be a refund to our Credit Card if/when they formally cancel those international flights.

What did Virgin say when you asked for a refund? I believe that Qantas have already cancelled all international flights to October.

Just letting others know that the points for my cancelled flights hit my Velocity account today. So quite a lot quicker than 21 working days.:)

It's been 21 days (not working) since I cancelled mine and still nothing. No points back no cash back.

There is an update on conditional credits - Virgin Australia will provide customers with a new credit to the value of travel credit balances for bookings made prior to the commencement of the voluntary administration period, including customers with Conditional Credits. Future Flight credits will be available for booking flights up to 31 July 2022 with travel valid until 30 June 2023.
