Should I fly a with a random cheap carrier, or Qantas?

The relative difference between the said fares of $2100 & $1800 is minimal in the whole scheme of things.. sub 40 flying hours $300 variance = $7.50 per hour supplement on a 'better" comforting product..

There is always a reason why one product is lesser cost than the other..

At the end of the day, it is clearly your decision, so let us know what your choice is..

I still always remember: Quality is always remembered long after price is forgotten :D

Is that price calculated on buying the necessary points?

That estimate is a total price inclusive of everything ;) assuming one wants to buy points and book immediately.

[calculations 50k+50k bonus $1880, 20K full price $750, taxes $200, booking fee $50 = $2880]

Ok, I've found a Qantas / BA / Finnair combination for just under $1900 (via two different searches on Expedia.ie). However, I can't seem to get them on the one booking (as I'd prefer my bags routed, especially seeing there is only a 2 hour layover in Singapore on the way out). However a direct search MLB -> LHR only comes up with the $2100 fare I mentioned earlier.

Does anyone know if there is anyway to get the new combination on one booking?

Seeing that you are going to be SG anyway I would get the cheapest QF flight I could get and then pay for the exit row seats.
That is a good idea. May do that on my A380 flight SYD-HKG in September as I cannot get bulkhead.

You get more leg room than in J and have the ability to easily stand up and walk around at any time and IMHO they are great value.
Says he who looked extremely comfortable sitting in middle exit row seat on BKK-SYD flight with no one in aisle or window. ;)

I had actually paid for the aisle seat but as soon as the doors were closed I slid across to ensure no freeloaders parked themselves there. Mind you with the four seats you had they gave us 7 between us.

I have just booked a very similar itin for an upcoming trip. PER to the UK for about $1700 all in. QF from PER to SIN, and AY from Sin to the UK. I am bypassing the dreaded LHR and still getting all the bennies. Booked as two seperate itins but I have allowed a few (5/6) hrs between flights to allow for Jr to run around and for refreshments before boarding the LH flights. Notes made in the AY booking and QF booking about the following trips and as all OW bags will be through checked.

After I found the cheapest flights, I checked prices on Skyscanner and booked through there.

Thanks alieninperth, I'll book my tickets later tonight. I think I'll take a day layover in Singapore on the way out as otherwise there is only 2 hours between flights, but if they can route my luggage on the way back that would be great.

Thanks for your help everyone! :)
