Hi I am looking for some advice....

I am moving from Australia to the US later this year. Currently I accrue mileage and status on Qantas and hold Qantas Platinum / OW Emerald status.

If I switch to AAdvantage and accrue miles I will get free uprgrades once I qualify for Executive Platinum right?

And in terms of reaching that status am I right to assume that if SYD-LAX-JFK is 9,963miles one way that five round trips plus a side trip in the US will get me there? ie approx 100K miles

In the cross over period while I am OW Emerald on QF what will I get from AA (and I'll be accruing points on AA) until I reach Executive Platinum on AA?

Many thanks in advance

if you accrue points on AA you'll get nothing until you reach their status level.

Welcome to AFF :)

Yes, you will get all the a(a)dvantages of Executive Platinum status including the system-wide upgrades once you've qualified, but only then. In the meantime, you could always credit to AA while building up your mileage balance but flash your QF Platinum card to receive lounge access/other benefits. Sometimes the airlines don't like you doing this, but it is technically possible.

Yes, 5 return SYD-LAX-JFK trips should get you close to Exec Platinum. You could always mix things up a bit though to get there without a side trip, e.g. SYD-SFO-LAX is 10,003 miles and SYD-MEL-LAX-JFK is 10,835 miles. These routings are often the same price as the direct option. You just need to be careful about the earning class. On AA marketed flights with an AA flight number (whether operated by Qantas or AA), discount economy earns 1 EQM per mile flown. However, QF-numbered flights earn only 0.5 EQM per mile flown in discount economy. Only full flex economy fares (Y or B class) earn 1 EQM. Premium economy and above all earn 1.5 EQM per mile. So the moral of the story here is to purchase AA marketed flights through the AA website.

Need more of your situation for an informed answer.

How many Life Time SC's do you have?

How long until your WP expires? (Don't forget the Gold Soft landing.)

Agree with Serfty... LTG on QF, if within reach, could be something very handy

About 1000. So Lifetime Silver.

WP will expire 30/6/2017 - I've just requalified with QFF

It's not too difficult to get enough SC's in the USA. Assuming you can get the 4 earning flights on qantas you culd investigate stqtus on both programs - remeber EXP/PLAT dont get automatic lounge access wothin north America.

So you have to pay to get lounge access regardless of status?

If I am OW Emerald on QF I can still use the lounge until that expires right?

OK I have booked on AA website (started search on Kayak to get all the sectors) and I'll hit 12,500 miles before I fly back to Australia from LAX.

Routing is:

SYD7,488 mi
LAX236 mi
LAS1,514 mi
ORD738 mi
HPN564 mi
CLT936 mi
DFW247 mi
SAT843 mi
