Should There be more Perks for Platinum???

As a Gold and soon to be Plat on DJ and fully self funded I think the free upgrades to J is a crazy idea.

There are plenty of other more realistic perks they could offer WPs though.

I agree. When flex PER-SYD/MEL is $299 yet is similarly priced on the golden triangle (+ ADL) it makes no sense IMO.

My future flights will be on Qantas to go towards life-time Gold until Virgin has something for me!

I am Plat with Virgin, and will be plat until March 2014 as a result, on paid flights, there is no reason for me to really fly Virgin! I have never received an upgrade to J, I don't get a meal in Y and there is no IFE

Yes I will still fly Virgin on some flights if the timing/price is right, but Qantas is my main aim for now, both to retain plat to 2014, and as mentioned to go towards life-time gold!

Virgin - You need to implement a life-time status credit program

I suggest Virgin not apply a "by sector" approach for the 4 Plat. comp. upgrades. Just leave it the way it is for the Plats.
Resurrecting this thread, and linked discussion that VA Plat comp uprgrades may be applied by sector in upcoming VA changes.

Changes like this would otherwise disadvantage some of us on the Gold Coast, when no direct flight available - e.g OOL HBA.
Upside remains the VA OOL lounge, PJ

A useful addition to the platinum benefit lineup would be the ability to select seats at the time of booking, instead of having to wait to T-14 like gold and silver flyers.

Additionally, I would like to see some flexibility in lounge rules that allows Platinum's to bring in more than 4 guests if those guest are part of their immediate family, i.e. children or parents, and of course such flexibility should only apply if they are flying. Qantas quite happily allow my entire family of 6 in when travelling with my father who is a Qantas WP.

This is for international, but I believe the children table applies at VA lounges domestically also - i.e. unlimited children under 12.
International Lounge Access | Virgin Australia

I have two children under 12, and my partner, so we are able to utilise the Virgin Australia, America and Delta lounges on our upcoming trip using only my Platinum status :)

Edit: just found this paragraph:

CHILDREN
Children, under 18 years of age, are welcome in the Virgin Australia lounge, but must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian.
Virgin Australia lounge and Velocity Platinum and Gold Members, can bring up to two children aged three to twelve years – in addition to their guest allowance – into the lounge at no cost. There is no charge for infants two years of age and under.

I fly 3/4 times a week and all my flights are with VA. I have made my Platinum renewel after 4 months. I do enjoy the service and the crew are always a helpfull Bunch! The Lounges are good (sometimes overcrowded) but I wonder there should be more perks for Being Platinum and Flying so much????. I dont sense much Diffrence being plat or being Gold, Except from 4 Free upgrades I use on my Perth trips. It would be nice to see any Spare Business Seats given to Platinums at the gate or maybe a Plat Lounge.

Is there any news of any other bonuses for Plat Flyers in the future???:)

I'm very much in the same position here having requalified 3 times over and review date is 1 May and will easily make it 4 times by then.

The things I do like about platinum are the complementary status matches on Hilton and hertz, as well as the companion platinum and the complimentary upgrades. With regular half price points promotions business class upgrades at the gate are irrelevant and it keeps the value of business class.

The only 2 enhancements to the program I would like to see are status credits for points and a business lounge.

This much at least is coming (for Any Seat Award tickets): http://www.australianfrequentflyer....city/velocity-changes-incl-sc-earn-46113.html - check the linked PDF, top of page 3 under the map of Australia graphic. :)

Without getting out my laundry list of complaints and issues, the one thing I want is properly seamless recognition and uniform benefits with partner carriers - though I guess this will be improved by the GDS change, so I'm prepared to be patient. :)

Sorry I should qualify what I mean by status credits for points, either a QF style loyalty bonus of 10k points for every 500 status credits, or able to trade a status credit for points probably at a similar ratio.

I think you should get an additional 4 free upgrades for every time you requal for WP within a status year.

I agree with that and was pondering the possibility of registering a second velocity account (under my name) and conferring a companion platinum.

I'd then split flights over the two accounts to maintain status.

I wouldn't risk it. From the T+C's

3.6 Each Member may only have one Velocity Frequent Flyer Membership Account.

At the big status match I ended up with two accounts, they were later merged into one.

Assume they looked at duplicate names/addresses and other details :p

I'm going to approach VA and see what they can offer, I'll be going to the J upgrades.

I would like to see the partner offers reset (Hilton/IHC, Europcar/Hertz) when you requalify for Platinum. I believe that if you drop back to Gold and then hit Platinum again they are reoffered ? In this case those doing the most travel are getting offered less not more.

I would like each of the 4 comp upgrades for Plats to earn S/Cs at the bus. upgraded rates year round. Even if only for domestic. I think it is a loyalty recognition matter, also.

i think they do although not intentionally?

IMHO,

VA should have a LTG and LTS tiers.

It would create a long term loyalty to VA.

This! This! This!

Without this all travel with Virgin doesn't count towards anything longer term unlike Qantas where you will get something back for many years of loyalty.

Agree on LTS and LTG

A shadow would also be a very worthwhile benefit for platinum, whether a published or unpublished benefit
