Should we feel guilty about flying?

There is no empirical evidence for this. Unlikely and unproven.

The jury is not out. It's clear that human's impact the "environment" detrimentally. That includes air travel. We should all just pop some pills and quietly pass away. OK, it will take a few centuries for nature to right itself, and for it deal with all the human remains. But then the earth can get on with getting on ...... . well at least until the next big meteor strike or Krakatoa type eruption, or until another species evolves some more to become dominant ..... :p;)

Reality is a bit of balance doesn't hurt, irrespective of whether human induced climate change is real or not, but the draconian "ban flying" and the "drama queen" approach that many take re climate change is not a way of winning hearts and minds.

If one believes that the super computer models giving Equilibrium Climate Sensitivity (ECS) of 4C to 5C increase in earth's temperature in a response to doubling of atmospheric CO2, then one indeed should feel very guilty flying and stop doing it - and call for the climate alarmists to set an example and stop spreading their very important message using private jets (e.g. Al Gore, Leonardo Dicaprio, Bernie Sanders - to name a few).

But if one believes the direct measurements studies of ECS, giving 1.15C to 2C increase, then enjoy one's holiday flights, and the abundance of food being produced world wide.

Renato

Less humans. Problem eased.

Unfortunately our global economic Ponzi scheme won't allow that to happen.

As for flying: I'm coming back to CBR over the next 24hrs by the more circuitous route BKK-SIN-ADL-MEL-CBR, because that's where the award seats were available! No guilt.

I also get the irony of the fly less situation: LCC have democratised flying by opening it up to the masses. But now too many people are flying so we need to put taxes on tickets to make people fly less!

Whenever people state that the solution to the Earths problems is "Less Humans" I always invite them to be the first to depart this plane...…..strangely they seem to think it is all the OTHER people that are the overburden....;)
