SIA redemption September 2020 - change booking or cancel/rebook

Thank you for the update. So for my July fight I will just wait till they extend the Travel Waiver to include it.

Note that SQ Travel waiver policy has now been extended for flights up to end of July.

ie The policy in short is that all points and charges will be refunded, and no points redeposit fee charged when you cancel.

I booked my July flight back in December. My points expired February 2020. With the flight cancellation by Singapore they have said they will redeposit the miles with a new expiry date of 30 June 2021 which is extremely generous. So I guess you need to wait and see if the flights are still being cancelled come October. This is the wording.

If you have used your KrisFlyer miles to redeem an award ticket
You may request for a full refund of your KrisFlyer miles and airport taxes. No fees will be charged to redeposit the miles back into your account. The validity of your refunded miles will also be extended to 30 June 2021 if they have expired or are expiring on or before May 2021.

As your booking was redeemed with KrisFlyer miles, you will not be eligible for flight or bonus flight credits. If your ticket has been partially used (i.e. you have already flown part of your itinerary), you will receive a refund for the unused portion of your ticket.

If you have paid for seats, excess baggage or Singapore Stopover Holiday packages, the amount will be refunded to your original mode of payment. If you have purchased travel insurance via Singapore Airlines, do remember to contact AIG to cancel the policy for a refund.

Just contemplating booking a flight for mid August with return late September. Should we still be in lockdown would I be able to refund? Anyone have an idea on the charges should there be no wavier?
Getting itchy feet!!!
Thanks for any input.

just as a Data point, I had a MEL-SIN-CGK flight back in Early April. was notified by SQ that flight was cancelled and refund would proceed. Fast forward to now, still no refund in points nor taxes. A few emails and Phone calls have resulted in the usual "sorry, but processing time is longer than usual"

It would seem that anything thats put through the system manually is taking forever (at least in my case)
flights which you can cancel on your own through the KF website seems to be an automated system? ie why your points and taxes get refunded instantly.

Would love to hear others experience with similar situations.

That does not match my experience. I cancelled my flight through the KF website on June 10 and as at June 21 there has been no refund of points or taxes. They were quite clear in their email that they are processing refunds in order of flights which makes it quite surprising that your April flights are not refunded. I wonder if flights come online sooner rather than later and create a bit of cash flow whether we will suddenly see processing times speed up. Your posting encouraged me to log on and face the dreaded notification of expiring points in the next 6 months. It's all a bit burdensome keeping track of refunds, expiring points and an inability to even think of booking anything new.

Contacted SQ as have a bunch of flights coming up in August.

Apparently the travel waiver policy will be extended again but they couldn't 'officially' confirm.

interestingly enough, i thought it best to try emailing SQ one more time about the fact ive waited about 3 months for a refund (respectfully of course, afterall this situtation is not one anyone wants to be in!)

The next morning my points have been refunded... taxes on their way. Mmm. so the trick is? email email email? seems to have worked this time. Now to cancel another one in October.. :(
