Sick of flying :(

BTW, speaking of "woe me", how dare browski hijack my sorrow thread with concise questions, and showing they travel to a heap of places I can only dream of!! Shame!

Well, I have never been to Santiago.
How about I will give you 5 of NBO, LOS, ACC, LUN, ADD for one SCL

I've covered a few places but W Africa is a gaping hole in my world that has been gnawing at me a little.

I presume you go for business?

These days I only go anywhere for pleasure and I'm increasingly interested in stretching to 'interesting' places.

Since we've hijacked @juddles' thread, maybe we need to start a 'Tell me about West Africa' thread?

BTW, I'll swap you a KRT for the two I haven't been to: LOS and ACC :).

All this just prompted me to start my Sudan TR: Sussing Sudan

I can empathise juddles...

A little while back I changed roles and significantly scaled back the amount of work travel I was doing. I may lose my privileges as a card-carrying AFFer for saying this, but I firmly believe that the only thing better than being a top tier frequent flyer is not being a top tier frequent flyer!

I know the feeling. Long haul J is not fun and doing it as often as you do it was just a matter of time until you get burnt out. If you must travel as much the only solution I can think of is spice things up with more F flights, even if it means significantly longer journeys (Via Asia and US maybe...). Unlike J which is mostly boring and not that comfortable (particularly for tall pax), F is fun and almost as comfortable to sleep in as hotel bed.

I work roughly between 50 to 60 hours a week, and on a recent trip that went MEL-AKL WLG-SYD-BNE BNE-SNH SNH-BNE-MEL (along with a bucket-load of driving) I just hit a point where I felt that although I always though I had a limitless love for travelling, I just felt burned out. This unexpected overwhelming urge to just sit in my lounge at home and be stationary for a bit came over me. I felt I just pushed it a bit too hard this time, especially as I am often on the plane within hours of finishing a shift at one of the two hospitals I work at and I don't quite get a slowdown.
But in about two weeks I found myself feeling an urge to be on a plane again. Oh well!

Actually browski, you will have to improve your bid - I just realised that I went to ACC a few years ago! (spent a few days driving around out in the Kumasi/Obuasi area)

And Johnm, I will swap my OTU for all your russian ones.

Actually, OTU is somewhere you really really don't want to go.

According to World Airport Codes, OTU is now closed. I guess that may not surprise you?

I was unaware of that - interesting. But yes, it does not surprise me. Possibly in my top 5 places NOT TO EVER GO AGAIN in Colombia. That is a final and fatal stroke for that town (Remedios - Segovia). It is dangerous enough just being there, but having to travel by land would be far worse. You can probably still charter a small plane to go there though (have done that too). But if you do intend that one day, please leave me your keys to your house, your car, and any credit cards with your PIN :)

johnm, remind me one day to tell you all about Remedios-Segovia - what a place!

Mate, I'm sure I'll be getting you to tell me lots :). My life is too mundane to talk about .

I feel your pain @juddles , as a regular flyer of the same route, it's not fun after a time. Although circumstances have curtailed my flying for the next few months. Currently sitting here in downtown TPP after a minor car accident resulted in a broken ankle... , tests results last week showed a minor DVT, so can't fly for at least 6 to 8 weeks.
And to make matters worse have to get back to LIM next week, dreading 18 to 20 hours on a bus....(god help me!!) And need to be home at christmas ....aaarrggghhhhhh (to summon the juddles devil)
Well life throws a lemon or 5, then you just realise you are citric intolerant. Is that a thing?

Anyway, was thinking only a couple of months ago, on my way to LIM via SYD and SCL as usual, bloody heck, I'm sick of this! But a side journey to MEX and PVR was frustrating , but sparked my flying bug again. Loved it!

So, for you @juddles , I think you just need a change of scenery. Take a short holiday with the daughter or anyone. CHANGE IT UP!

And , hopefully , one day our paths will cross at SCL or SYD. Must try to make it happen one day.

I may have the bull from the wrong end ..... but, have I read posts that you're currently not working, taking some sort of unpaid sabbatical? If so, why travel if you're sick of it?

Sitting on a bus for 18-20 hours is much more likely to result in a DVT than 6-8 hours on a plane

Yes @drron ... but in my humble opinion. The one thing Peru has gotten right, is long distance buses! They are equivalent to a Y+ for total service, but seating can be close to J. But still, this will take 2 trips, one of 6 hours, a 3 hour break, then one of 9 hours...(help me:()

i can understand totally; I'm about to post a part trip report on the one i am on now which has been extended 5 times. I left Australia Aug 27th for a month and still away! This trip so far, remembering i had a 7 day turn-around before it; MEL > BKK > CNX > BKK > VIE > ATH > AXD > ATH > LHR > VIE > BKK > CNX > BKK > HKG > LAX > RNO > OAK > RNO > LAS > DEN > LAS > RNO > LAX > HKG > BKK > ICN > KWJ > ICN > BKK > HKG > LAX > RNO but still to go so far RNO > LAX > LGW/LHR > FRA > ATH > AXD > ATH > LHR/LGW > LAX > RNO > OAK > RNO > LAX > HKG > BKK > CNX > BKK > MEL!!!!!!
