SilkAir Delays/ Cancellations

MI is an airline that one sometimes misses for this forum, as it has few flights into and out of Oz. It appears to normally be very punctual. That has been my limited experience of a couple of flights on it, and from what I have seen on FR24.

On Wednesday 16 November 2016, however, MI802, the 1545 hours DRW - SIN did not take off until 1948. Arrival of B738 9V-MGA is expected at around 2248 hours instead of the timetabled 1900 at gate time.

SQ subsidiary MI continues to have good punctuality with its limited Australian flights but Monday 19 December 2016 is an exception, with MI811, the 0110 hours from SIN down to CNS having not taken off until 0156. Arrival of B738 9V-MGD should be at 1030, 40 late.

Silkair just advised me that they were cancelling my flight MI566 on 11/04/2019 (DVO to SIN, dep 15:25) and rebooking me to flight MI561 (dep 17:00) which does not seem to exist. I am hoping it will be a new service similar to MI562 (which departs DVO at 19:20) and not an alternative booking code for SQ5261 which flies via Cebu and takes 2 hours longer.

DVO is seeing increased usage but some other attempts at international flights there by other carriers have failed. It appears to lack the critical mass of leisure travellers, both locals and foreigners, that has enabled CEB to build its new T2 (international flights).

Provided there is peace in Davao City, one might expect a gradual increase in international flights to and from this airport, but as far as I know, unlike Cebu City, it isn't a favoured destination for South Koreans (or mainland Chinese) so growth may not be fast.

MI has had a long record in many SIN - DVO flights at least one way operating via CEB as a 'triangle.' Presumably there just isn't the yield (and/or passenger numbers) in and out of DVO to make some flights viable.
