Just got the same email.

Good thing my future travel is currently booked in J, and should be hitting Gold with what I've got booked by the end of the year!

Aslong as they keep discounted lounge membership their silver tier is better than QF.

Two complimentary Virgin Australia lounge passes valid for six months

Does this mean you could use 1 guest pass for the first six months and the second one for the second six months and have have year round access to the lounge. - Just speculating :mrgreen::mrgreen:

To me that was the most significant benefit of silver. In my experience the priority queues aren't very busy so I don't see why they need to change it.

A Qantas Style Enhancement?

has Virgins recent sucess gone to its head?

Are we seeing the result of increased traffic and loyality being rewarded by less rewards?

What will be enhanced next?

Remember after all to get to Silver is a milestone for some people who may only fly MEL - SYD for example and rather than go for cheapest seat on any airline try to get some recognition by being loyal to one airline.

Most us that get to gold or Plat will normally do a lot of travel so will put our money with the airline that gives us the best option on the day so to me silver flyers are often more loyal than Gold and Plat flyers.

Why cant airlines leave FF benifits at the same level and or increase them rather than trying to cut them.

How long before other benifits are dropped or enhanced at other levels like for example Any Time Access which was dropped ? Again I ask what next?

What benefits do VA Silver members get in the US?

Priority boarding and checkin on VX
and DL

I will most likely be soft landing to silver next year and the priority checkin was, in my opinion, the best part of it.

A shame to see as I will be hitting Silver in 2 weeks... lucky I'll be gold a few weeks after that. :)

Haven't got the email, yet but I have the distinct feeling that I have been targetted for "enhancement"

The discounted lounge membership is one of the nicer things that VA have but this is a bit of a bummer for me....

I got the email too. I'll be Gold by the weekend so doesn't worry me and not overly surprised.

Don't know why they took priority check-in away from Silvers and not Flexi Fares. People with no status purchasing a flexible Y ticket do not need priority check-in!!

Good point. Effectively a one-off purchase is rewarded more than ongoing loyalty.

So if I am a whinger, so be it.... What’s brought on this downgrade in Silver membership? I would have thought that the relative benefit to Silver was easy enough to execute with no additional resources needed at the check-in, and it meant that Silver passengers – who obviously fly a lot, otherwise they would not be Silver – have a fairly quick check-in, or importantly, bag drop. Now we have to wait in the queue with all the others, taking up my valuable time ! The point is, the Virgin experience suddenly gets a lot worse - this was the most significant thing for me as a Silver flyer. Now I won't have it, despite being faithfull to the airline. This retrograde move makes no sense, if you have a bag drop, you still need to be in a queue, somewhere!

Good point - I do OLCI and hand luggage only as 90% of my travel so wasn't a big blow for me - but if you have bag drop then I can understand your complaints!

Two complimentary Virgin Australia lounge passes valid for six months

Whoa! I didn't know they only lasted 6 months. I always got the impression that they lasted one year. Oh well.

Complimentary checked baggage allowance

I always thought this was the biggest benefit of Silver over Red. Naturally, if you rarely check in baggage.... but then for most of us elites, we travel a lot so we try to travel without checked baggage, and we take it for granted a lot that we always have this complimentary checked baggage allowance to fall back on.
