SQ MEL SKL re-opening now back to 1st week June at earliest - just can't wait for opening party.

Latest news is June 11 re-opening SKL in MEL - official party date yet to be decided - will be so pissed off if it's post June 19 as I am heading to Europe June 19 for 3 weeks - and ex SYD too unfortunately.

I'm flying F saver suites from MEL on June 14 so I hope it's open.

SQ Lounge staff called me on Tue Jun 4 - they were flat out cleaning the Lounge in readiness for opening - was advised it would be June 11 - of course anything could have happened to delay and I really don't want to annoy them - will post updated info if I get it.

7 days to clean?? :o

Sooner the better it opens for sure, I am still amazed that people go sit in the United Club instead of NZ Koru... place is an absolute dive!

The Koru is quite reasonable if it's not so busy.

I stick to SQ / UA Lounge for 2 reasons:

  1. Moet as opposed to the Vinegar in Koru Club
  2. Lana :D

UA even when SQ is closed?! Think the Moet has gone to your head!:mrgreen:

When I flew SQ J a few months ago the SQ Lounge was closed so popped into UA... ugh. One seat available, cough on the floor everywhere... promptly retreated to Koru Club.

I'm flying F tonight MEL/SIN. Is the lounge open?
Wait - let me call.

Edit: Nope – you are cough out of luck my friend – opening date now back to June 17 – grand opening party later that week – bummer – flying out of SYD on SQ222 on 19[SUP]th[/SUP] myself and will miss party – don’t you hate that?

Bummer. How long does it take to clean a lounge for first use. Thanks for ringing. Appreciate it. What's my alternative? The NZ lounge?

Oh I think the delay was more than cleaning. Personally I have a great rapport with the Lounge staff - I would never use an alternative - they have Moet in the UA lounge so that is all I need - NZ Lounge not French Champers - you will get $40 Café Vue voucher - you can get 1.5 glasses Veuve there.

Is the voucher applicable for only J/F passengers? Hadn't head of that.

Flying out of MEL on 19 June. So hopefully for me the re-opening does not drift much further than 17 June.

Apparently MEL SKL opened today, I am still waiting for confirmation pics... only got SMS telling me that F lounge leather chairs are very comfy with power points for every seat... ( I still want photographic evidence... don't trust text messages)

I have been given a couple, but I don't know whether it was travel class or status that drove that.

Given I have known that lounge was closed, I have been timing my runs to spend as little time as possible in the airport. It is a fine art to check in with just enough time to clear security and immigration and board the flight not long after (and have bubbles on board).

I had a quick pit stop at Café Vue once and let a young couple use the rest of a voucher. On other occasions I have given them away or walked onto the aircraft with them slipped inside my bag. Probably not meant to give them away, ah well, fat fingers :p
