do you lose all sc's at annv. date

i'm very new at this and enjoying reading and learning. My learning though is a bit slow. I'm off o/s soon and am still bronze. Does this mean on my annv. date I will lose the sc's I earned on this trip? cheers, trish

Hi Trish,

Welcome. At the end of your membership year your status credits are reset back to zero, however QANTAS keeps a record of them for your life time count (7,000 life silver, 14k life time gold).

They do this to work out what level you qualify for in the future year ie. get to gold one year, reset credits to zero (but you keep gold for the year) and you try to requalify. Hope that helps.

Why thank you, NM. I got strange looks from CSA's in the QP's as well as the FA's who recognised me from previous flights...

Haven't done one for a while...I think it's about time I did  as I need some SC's for Plat re-qualification

I've gotta start thinking about next year's re-qualification process. Anniversary is later this week. unlike many people, my travel schedule is extremely variable. For example, this last year I started with very little travel in the first 6 months, then did about 3000 SCs in 3 months, then nothing in the last few months.

But hopefully I won't have to spend a weekend flying all over Australia in economy to make it  . but with Lifetime Gold under my belt now, if I am not going to make Plat then I might as well accrue towards AA Plat for the better value earn/burn rates. Tough decision since I don't know how easily I will make Plat - could make it in one RTW trip so long as I have the need for that travel. But if the need is not there, I don't go anywhere.

Ah yes, the conundrums we face, NM. Likewise, I should cross over the Lifetime Silver mark by my next Anniversary (28 Feb 06). It's at that point that I'll be looking at my expected travel patterns (dropping from a frequency point of view post 1 July 2005) and working out which will be better. The fact that it will take me another 7K SC's to get Lifetime Gold is an almost unimaginable target. Little bites at a time seem more manageable.

Of course, the flipside is that my fare types is changing. Whilst once I would travel on red e-deal outbound & super saver fares inbound, now it's super saver outbound and flexi saver/fully flexible on the inbound sectors.

Qualifying AA Plat using a Challenge is simple. Re-qualifying AA Plat is line ball given my expected mix of domestic [Australian] flights (a decent number) and international (low).

Of course, one of the reasons I like AA Plat is the fact that I do travel to USA (albeit only once a year or bi-ennially). Thus the reason why when Mrs LW lost Partner Gold and fell to Silver, we put her on an AA Plat (for our trip to UK last year). Now the benefits are being seen as we are off to USA this next trip and able to use the points and upgrades (under her Plat status) to access A class seats and book upgrades on some of the longer sectors for a reasonable price (as you and some will know, it's USD$25 per 500 mile "sticker).

Did I take long to consider $150 per person upgrade on an AA MIA/SFO (a 5 hour + flight). Hell no, we're in the queue! Just a pity that they don't post as A class . Always have the ability to use points from my parents' accounts to upgrade (assuming A seats open up). That'd be even nicer

Yes, last year I thought I was still 3 or 4 years away from LT Gold level. Then we got to April this year and the SCs started ticking over faster than the $$$ counters on a petrol pump. 210 hours sitting on planes in 3 months was my contribution. My family's contribution was much more significant. Now that can enjoy my slow travel period for a while, and they will be the benefactors of the FF points accumulated.

Ya-hoo! I am now a 'Silver' level FF, for whatever that brings - or doesn't!

However, as I noted in earlier posts, what seems a relatively minor achievement given the mileage of most of you folks is a major achievement for myself, as a one-time (and still sometime so) Freaked Out Flyer!

And what a day I picked to do it, too - thunderstorms and turbulence on the way out of Cbr, and then again on the way back in! Gees, I tell ya, it's almost time for a new thread - most dramatic flight you've been on!

(And kudos to my fellow traveller, who was having a merry old time as we ducked and weaved through the air, telling me he had missed this kind of stuff since Australia's Wonderland closed!)

Thanks again, all!

Congratulations newflyer. A great achievement and one that obviously means a lot to you, which is very important. Now you need to make the most of the status ... so that means more flying :D . Sounds like you are well on the way to nervous recovery  . Keep it up and please keep us posted with your progress.
