Greetings all,

What's the service like in PE on this leg? Pre-take off drinks and that sort of thing? Is this going to be one of the refurbished 747s?

We have seats in the jumbo which has the split PE layout on either side of the staircase. I am travelling with 3 so have selected us a row of four in the middle.

Also, as we will be carrying on from FRA to LON on British Airways, what are the BA lounges at Frankfurt like?

I don't think this route uses the refurbed 747s. I'm flying this on the 9th September and mine isn't
What date are your flights? Can check in expertflyer.

I did QF 5 and 6 in the last two weeks (in J so didn't really pay attention to the prem eco section), unfortunately there is still no sight of refurbished aircraft on this route. As OWE you can use the JAL Sakura Flounge in T2, when getting off QF5 you practically walk into the lounge. It is small but adequate, I only saw 2 showers which are shared with the J lounge so there can be a wait, I would ask as soon as you get to the lounge. Security checks are between lounge and gate so allow enough time for that.

And because I am an idiot and didn't read the thread properly, my photos are from QF6 FRA-SIN; although the experience should be similar in the reverse.

You will get a pre take off drink.

Service good, food options good, I might even have the menu somewhere.

I might get around to doing a trip report one day.

Usually old equipment

But it is PE which is nice and especially nice when you buy the ticket ex Frankfurt.

The Y+ service is ok. You usually get a pre-take off drink, or at least I did when I flew QF5 & 6 in May.

As Ozmille said, you use the JAL lounge. The F lounge is through a glass door on the right as you walk up to the desk, and the J lounge is on the left. The J lounge is reasonably comfortable with a decent drinks selection, but the food is fairly basic; sandwiches, pretzel-type things, and the inevitable boiled sausage with sauce and mustard. The F lounge is smaller, slightly better drinks and similar food. Showers and toilets are shared with the J lounge. The optional accessories on the toilet are pretty impressive!

I'm heading back there again, coincidently on the 9th September, but I'm trying BA Y+ all the way this time; ADL-SYD-SIN-LHR-FRA and return on 23rd September. Not because I don't want to fly QF, but because it's $2k cheaper.......

Could you have taken BA flight number operated by QF? I have noticed that most BA fares allow this.

I tried that but for the dates I'm flying it only worked out $102 cheaper than the equivalent QF flight.....:(

I'm trying to look on the positive side; I haven't flown BA for a while so I'm hoping I'll be pleasantly surprised!

I'm on a refurbed 747 FRA-SIN in October, unfortunately. :(

I flew BA Y+ earlier this year HGK-LHR return (on 777 and 747). I hope I am wrong but I don't think you will be pleasantly surprised. QF definitely a better product, hard and soft.

I flew Y+ SYD-LHR-SYD twice in 2010. You won't be pleasantly surprised....unless you get an op up. (I did one via BKK and one via SIN.)
