As we all know the 2020 Asian lounge crawl had to be abandoned before it even began. As I write there is hope of a vaccine sooner rather than later, and QF are taking bookings for later in the year.

In an effort to find a public holiday later in the year the weekend of Victoria's football day seems the best bet. As the holiday is on a Friday, the meetup will be on the Saturday as opposed to the traditional Sunday. And for those who need to watch, the time difference means it will be all over before the crawl.

The only criteria is that you need to be booked on a OneWorld airline to get access to the lounges. A bonus is that if you book a QF flight you will get access to the EK lounge. If you have airline status all the better, but if you don't there are usually enough people with status to guest the extras.

Fingers crossed it goes ahead this year. (The crawl that is, as I don't give a hoot about football. :p )

Just in case this is all new to you, here are the previous crawls for reference:

SIN lounge crawl 24 Aug 2013
HKG lounge crawl 8 June 2014
KUL SIN lounge crawl 7 June 2015
HKG lounge crawl 12 June 2016
NRT lounge crawl 11 June 2017
HKG lounge crawl 10 June 2018
KUL-SIN lounge crawl 9 June 2019

Lounges – QF J, QF F, BA, QR, EK (if flying QF), and Priority Pass

Very Interested. Will still have WP Status.

I would like to say yes however we took a punt on travelling to NZ in July for a couple of weeks and in the past couple of days have changed it to leaving late Sep (22nd or 23rd) and returning early Oct. I am pretty sure MrsM will not believe me if I said “I am just ducking out to get a bottle of wine” and then disappear for a few days, NZ is not a OW nation.

As an alternative would the Mel Cup holiday work, it would just mean some may need to take the Monday off and with an extra day it could be another multi-city/country lounge crawl.

Liking the Mel cup week suggestion better :)

Interested if vaccines are available.....

I would love to attend my first lounge crawl, caveat vaccine and availability of flights. I doubt the UK train journey deferred from last September will be going ahead.

I thought about it but felt that would require making people take an extra day off, whereas football weekend is three days in a row already.

Please correct me if I am wrong but it is only a holiday in Victoria. So any one from another State must take a day off.

Yes, you are correct, and Friday is the one day a week I work. Will still take it off, though. How does the crawl work? Do we fly up on Friday and back Saturday night? One night at an airport hotel?

Que? The Friday isn't a holiday in the majority of Australia - in fact, its not in the vast majority of Australia ;). How about 12-14 June, the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend in Tasmania?

Interested ...

Many caveats as already expressed by others though. I'll hang on to my $$$ for the time being.

FWIW, CUP "weekend" is just after/on the start of my new Qantas "year" and I often travel then. This year I get to roll over up to 400 SC's.

I hope this will be able to go ahead this year. It's far too early for me to consider making a booking, but I will try to make it if international travel has resumed by then and I am able to!

Seems optimistic, but hope I'm wrong. Way too early for me to make any booking given no sign of NZ travel restrictions lifting enough to make this.

From the list in post #1 the June long weekend is the usual, but possibly too soon for Singapore at this stage, which is presumably why the alternative has been proposed. Tasmania sounds like it is more likely to work by June but anything is possible ! I will "watch this space'.

Quite correct.

There are no Aust-wide holidays in the second half of the year until Xmas. So as I am in Victoria, the Victorian holiday it is. :)

June is definitely out as you can't even book a flight with QF then. In the interests of prudence I have set it is late as is practical. And no matter what date I had chosen I would never have pleased everyone. *sigh*

Fly up when-ever suits you. Someone may organise a dinner in Singapore on Friday night.

Book a OneWorld flight leaving SIN Saturday evening. Ideally after about 8pm to give enough time to wander between the terminals.

Just be careful booking CX as their lounge is in terminal 4, and access to terminals 1, 2, 3 where the rest of the lounges are might be tricky.

I think everyone is pleased that you have again stepped up to organise; thankyou. I was kidding with the June suggestion, and I should have put a :) there.

But as we've established that many, possibly most attendees won't have a public holiday on Friday for travel, would you consider moving the crawl to the Sunday, the usual day - so it's a meet on the way out/back home, after a day and a bit in Singapore?
