Hi everyone. I will be flying with Qantas from Singapore to Melbourne and transiting through Perth and i would like to know do i have to re-check in my baggage at Perth domestic terminal. In other words, i will land in Perth international and have to take a domestic to Melbourne (both with Qantas). Do i have to take my luggage to the domestic terminal after customs or will Qantas automatically help me do a transfer to domestic? Advice from anyone will be appreciated! Thank you!

There is a 24H transfer bus, free for QF-QF customers (You collect a bus ticket from the Qantas sales desk).

I've used this a few times recently and wasn't aware of the bus ticket business. Not sure if the sales desk would even be open at some of the ex SIN arrival times.
There is usually a pre-arrival in-flight announcement saying to show your boarding pass or itinerary to the driver, but in IME they never ask for them. I just get on the bus and take a seat.

Thank you Serfty for the warm welcome!

So meaning that i would have to shuttle to the domestic terminal with my heavy luggage? I am more concern about how would my luggage be dealt with. Was actually hoping Qantas would transfer my luggage instead of me moving it myself since it's a connecting flight with Qantas. Any ways to get Qantas to help in this situation?

I will arrive at Perth around 2pm so i guess the sales desk would be open? On the Perth Airport website it did mentioned that there is a free shuttle to the terminals that runs every 50mins. Is that shuttle service the same as the free bus for QF-QF customers?

Yes, I believe it is one and the same.
I've only ever had a carry-on bag so havn't paid much attention to the luggage arrangements.

Last time I transferred on that service, there was a check in counter functioning as a transfer counter and you could re check your bags there. No such luck if doing the 1 in the morning transfer.
Never had a bus ticket to get across. At most they have taken the stub off the boarding pass.

Oz_mark is correct you can only transfer bags during the day (ie. There are no QF ramp staff between about 1am - 4am). And ever since the transfer bus stopped having to go airside to get you to domestic, it has been free of charge.

Schedule can be a bit touch and go, but there are generally more buses running in the afternoon due to all the South African connections arriving just before the SIN flight.

Domestic recheck counters are usually based in the vicinity of check-in counters 31-33, if the past is anything to go by.

May i know where is the transfer counter located at?

So i assume queuing at the service counter to get the free tickets is not necessary as i can just hop onto the free bus. I'll be having a 3hr transit time and hopefully would be enough for me to clear customer, collect baggage, quarantine, re-checked in my baggage, travelling to domestic terminal, re-check in again. Oh my such hassle!

I haven't done the international transfer in PER but I have done it in SYD many times and no probs at all.

If you are going QF to QF they will make it easy for you.

There will be signs.

In my experience it is one of the check-in counters near the escalators. So after you come out of customs/immigration, turn right down to the check-in counters.

Unfortunately, the SYD Int-> Dom QF experience is not matched very well elsewhere in Oz.

In BNE they do have a recheck facility, in MEL you get to proceed up a travelator and join the connection queues.

The only issue at BNE Intl is you need a mininum of one hour from dropping off your bag at the domestic transfer desk (in the international arrivals hall on level 2)to the ETD of your flight otherwise you have to jump on the T-Bus (level 4 departures) with your suitcase & recheck your bags at the domestic terminal prior to the 30 minute cut off.

Note that you need to see a checkin person to drop off the bags as your bagtags will not work at the auto bag drop as they've already been activated at your point of origin overseas. Most of the time they will 'track' pax which flags the system with where the pax was last seen which can help when there are fail to board pax as you would then have a fair idea of where they are.
