Singapore air booking surcharge

Re: Signapore air booking surcharge

I'm going to jump in here and say well done to SQ for putting an ALL INCLUSIVE fare even if it appears they are maybe disguising something for something else eg. the cc surcharge.

If the fee is unavoidable, then they are required to do so. If there is a payment method where the fee can be avoided, then they do not have to do so.

If the fee is unavoidable, then they are required to do so. If there is a payment method where the fee can be avoided, then they do not have to do so.

From the SQ Australia portal, a dummy booking reveals only two payment options: Credit Card (VS, MC, AX, DC) or Debit Card (VS, MC). AFAICT both options will cost the same amount of money, i.e. no way that the "charge" can be avoided.

I can't find the descriptor and YR code in any list of common tax/surcharge lists (unlike the more hated YQ charges).

The question remains as to whether there should be a stipulation that customers should be given the opportunity to pay a reduced fare if they could pay in a method other than by credit or debit card or by using a special credit card (e.g. what about the KrisFlyer co-branded cards issued by some of the banks?)

Of course, by the time people realise that it may be possible to reduce the fare by paying another way, they might be slightly annoyed to realise that they're being done out of by $25 just for using the common conveniences. So maybe SQ are doing the right thing by them (and silently by their customers).

I don't think they have a choice in this and are merely complying with legislation. I believe there is no online alternative other than to pay by CC so they have to quote the inclusive price.
