I believe 100W is more than 96W
96W allows the battery to charge at the same time as operating the laptop.

I dont know what the power limit is exactly on the seat power points. It seems to range between 75-100W. However i dont know what the power limit is for the Row as power sockets in a row of seats may be sharing power. Excess power draw = tripping the CB which is apparently not easily reset in the air.

I'd thought that was always a given, they are safety devices.

Surely the design of (especially the safety systems) should account the worst case scenario, i.e. everyone using the power sockets.

Not necessarily. Electrical solutions often do not assume that - there are always design compromises such as power points sharing circuits. The circuit breakers are there so that the design limits are not exceeded.
 
The fully optioned Macbook Pro M4 uses a 96W charger.

Which is the range of laptop power packs. If you get one over 100W you are into serious power. Most are about 65W.
Mine is 280 watts - if you saw the specs for it then you would understand why it needs that.
