Hi all,

Im a little confused re the taxes payable when booking a SIA J flight through the Virgin website. AFF and point Hacks both seem to indicate the taxes are cheaper when booking through the Virgin website ($78) but when looking just now the Virgin website is showing 175,000 points and $386 in taxes? Am I missing something?

Are you looking at a standard 'classic award' or are you looking at points plus pay? What route?

Hi, Im looking at points plus pay (Business Reward) as its the only way I know of that shows the correct amount of points and the dollar amount for taxes? Its hows 188,100 points, or 175,000 points plus dollars for taxes...

Hmm edit I just refreshed it and the taxes has dropped to $84...weird! Thanks for your help but it looks like tis just another cases of Virgin Website gremlins... ;)

Business Reward isn't points plus pay, points plus pay are the $$$ fares converted to points and are usually crazy expensive!

Good that it worked out!

175,000 points is a lot for a J award, transfer to Krisflyer and you're look at around 128K return from east coast of Australia, but the taxes are greater

But 128k KF miles requires 172800 VFF points to be transferred over. So why not enjoy the lower fees for pretty much the same points?

Sorry I should've made it clearer. An SQ J is roughly 95K krisflyer points which is 128K velocity, but it's around $600 in taxes. All depends on what you value points at, i'd value 50K points at more than $500

Ah ok, yep I agree with you there.
