Closest is near Orchard Road - about 2km from the Novotel.

HI Atrium is 1Km from Clark Quay and has rewards nights available if you book at least 5 nights (say 23-28/9), at 5K + $60 it would seem a good deal, if you try for two nights it just shows no availability, obviously a min stay restriction in place.

Hmm, I make HI Atrium a bit further away. Minimum night restrictions seem to be the rage that weekend.

1.2km to the Novotel according to Google Earth as the crow flys, so the hotels claim of 1Km to Clarke Quay is plausible, given the main complaint about the atrium is its location away from the main areas its probably a bonus when the GP is on in terms of access etc.

I make it about 3km by road to there (versus 2km). I'll have to hit Google Maps this arvo to check it out.

HI Atrium is more than 1km away (having stayed there).:!:

Probably depends on where in Clarke Quay the hotel is stating the distance from:

Its 2.13km driving according to street directory.com to the Novotel, by comparison the HI Orchard is 6.97km driving.

Gives me 2.0 km from HI Orchard to Novotel

I must have had an issue with the data, its now giving me 1.73km driving from HI Orchard! Much of a muchness by the looks of things in terms of distance, at 10K points per night more I am not sure where I would stay to be frank.

Outram Park MRT 2 stops from Clarke Quay and 4 more to the front gate of the GP

Good choice - I may have to investigate this PC thing a bit more...

IIRC it's a bit of a hike from the HI Atrium to the MRT station- although they do have a shuttle bus to Clarke Quay.

1. A SIN bar that may be playing the AFL Grand Final - any suggestions? Im thinking of the sports bar at Robinson Quay but am unsure

Singapore Wombats have a function on grand final day, usually includes
beers, raffles and appearance(s) by ex/current AFL players. And of course the
game telecast.

Check their website closer to the date Singapore Wombats Australian Rules Football Club

Confirming the HI Atrium have a shuttle bus which will drop you off at the MRT (although it doesnt go all that often or that late into the night), and having walked to Clarke Key from there, it is defintiely more than 1 km. I'd say closer to 3km by foot.

There are much closer stations than Clarke Quay from HI Atrium. The nearest is about 10-20 mins walk (at most), although I can't recall it's name right now.

There's a seafood restaurant at Clarke Quay, about the third in from the Novotel end which does insane chilli crab - the only problem with free flowing tigers is the $12 a bottle!

Chili Crab and Clarke Quay don't really go together. Chili Crab really needs to be enjoyed elsewhere to appreciate the price difference between being a tourist and being a local.

Then again, I think "No signboard seafood" (or whatever they are called) do have a restaurant at Clarke Quay, which means you'll get a decent Chilli Crab, although still at tourist prices.

The last time I was in Singapore enjoying Chili Crab, I paid $SG25 for it, and was also having Tigers @ $SG6. Aah the joys of the right hawker markets!

Yep, struggling to choose - although 10K less is 40% less

Hmm. It is a hard choice in SIN between those two hotels. IMHO, Orchard is better - mainly location wise, and MRT wise. The rooms do tend to be nicer. Atrium is basically in the middle of nowhere, but still has decent rooms (as long as they have completed their refurbishment). Taxis in Singapore are cheap and reliable. So TBH, I'd probably save the 10K/Night and "spend" it instead on taxis.

As I've commented earlier, the walk from Atrium to MRT isn't too bad.

I thought Atrium was pretty average in October last year. For the same price (or up to 20% more), i'd go Orchard next time.
