Singapore (SIN) Stopover Tips

Thanks CE, It’s sounding a bit less attractive. I have experienced the mortuary slabs though.

@gmoh the day rooms are not the normal rooms - they are indeed the smaller ‘Business Rooms’ which are way to the back of CP from Reception. They are quite ok just much smaller - indeed the beds are nowhere near as hard as the ‘mortuary slabs’ in the normal rooms so that’s a plus.

There is nothing wrong with the Business Rooms they are just smaller - fine if travelling alone - no windows on the ones I have stayed in - TBH for short term I would take a room in Ambassador in T3 - they are fine - or Aerotel in T1 beside the pool - I love that pool.

Am keeping options open. I’ve done the Aerotel for 6 hours, but that wasn’t quite enough time. Great view over the tarmac.

We've always done Aerotel, somehow never knew until recently there was even the Ambassador down the hall from TPR/KF Silver. We've booked here this time, to get an extra 40 minutes sleep. :)

Hi there to the Singapore experts

1) Anyone stayed at the Andaz Singapore (Hyatt's 'cool brand' hotel)

2) Any good restaurants nearby this hotel that anyone can recommend? I need a cool but not overly expensive restaurant that is close by (Walking ideal) for business entertaining. About $75 sgd a head limit.

I stayed at the Andaz in July. I stayed there because the conference I was attending was there. I paid extra for a room with a view and the view was indeed amazing. The entry to the hotel is confusing. If you arrive by taxi you arrive on a mezzanine level and then it is one lift to reception and a different lift up to your room. If you arrive on ground level eg from the MRT you first have to take an escalator then the 2 lifts (there's more than one escalator so you have to get on the correct one). The rooms have mostly hard floors and you can hear anything that anyone drops or scrapes on the floor in the room above. The infinity pool is only medium sized and there are not many chairs (about 10 maybe?) and not much pool deck area so if you are planning on spending a lot of time by the pool I do not recommend this hotel. I wanted a quick swim on a Saturday morning around 8am and already most of the chairs were taken and there were enough people in the pool that swimming a few laps was difficult with having to avoid people.

The hotel appears to rate its own restaurants pretty highly. I didn't eat there apart from one breakfast (which was good) so I can't comment on them for business entertaining. They looked ok, although there is another very confusing layout where basically all the different eating areas are in a connected circle - I had to ask to be shown the way out to reception as I was walking round and round and couldn't find it. The bar would be a good place for business drinks - the service was pretty good, the views are great and there is a fairly large outside deck with nice sunset views. The hotel is very close to Bugis Junction shops but I don't know if there is anything there suitable for business entertaining (I doubt it, there's a food court there though). There are some eating places underneath the hotel on ground level but I didn't notice anything that I would be prepared to take a client to except maybe for coffee.

Overall I ended up thinking the Andaz was a bit too cool for me with all the confusing layouts :p YMMV!

I now have it in writing that CP day rate rooms are the same as the normal rooms, I shall be taking this email with me. ;)
(Q, Please advise - is a day room the same as normal hotel rooms? Thank you.)

Greetings from Crowne Plaza Changi Airport!

YEP that video is the 'Business Rooms' (28sq mtrs) - I doubt this is the room you are thinking of GMOH as a 'normal room' - I am pretty sure your expectation of a 'normal room' is indeed a Premier Room (36sq mtrs) - but i might be wrong - that will probably occur one day

Yes, I thought it looked a bit tighter, but it has all mod cons incl a window - it'll do for a wee transit in comfort.

(Nice email of confirmation: Thank you for choosing us as your preferred hotel, being IHG Member and your lovely call). Probably as I was able to say Alpha, Brovo etc. :)

SGD142 (total incl ++), Black Friday deal SIN Yotel at Jewell for a member (join free). This is an overnight deal pay in advance, not available for a day rate however. I checked for mid 2020 and is available.

I only found out about this after I arrived:

Thanks, that’s useful. Now, it would help if they could do something about the lengthy queue at immigration.

Thank you. A convenient option

Is there a fast lane when going through immi as it’s all lanes v slow and insufficient agents that cause the hold up?

Not quite sure I understand the question? Once you have been granted to frequent traveller program it means no need to fill out a landing card and you can use the e-passport gates.

Thanks, I will do that for my next entry, or ... the simpler online one.
