Hi, I'm flying Perth - Singapore - Cochin next week. Perth to Singapore with Qantas followed by Singapore to Cochin with Silk Air and a transfer time of about 2 1/2 hr. Separate PNRs and with checked luggage.

A couple of questions.

First - am I right in presuming that Qantas won't check the bags through to Cochin?

Second - assuming the first point is true, how does the transfer process work in Singapore? Will we need to go through immigration, pick up our bags, check in for the Silk Air flight and head back through immigration/security? the Qantas flight arrives into terminal 1 and the silk air flight departs from terminal 2.

Thanks for your help

On arrival in SIN go to the nearest transfer desk (usually near the departing gates of the airline and for Silk Air this should be transfer E or transfer F) in terminal 2 and request boarding pass and show them your checked luggage tag and they will manually transfer luggage to your onward flight.

Note you can get Skytrain from terminal 1 to terminal or walk. No need to clear immigration.

JohnK would this be the same procedure (diff transfer desk) if transferring from Scoot to Turkish Airlines? Or would Scoot being a LCC rule this out?

I can't be certain but can't see why not. Are Scoot in one of the main terminals? It's possible to use transfer desks for 3K flights.

Turkish is in T1, and Scoot is in T2. The terminals are linked airside, and they don't segregate departures and arrivals, so feel free to drop by T1 and ask at the TK transfer desk. In the worst case, just hop on the train back to T2, clear customs and pick up luggage.

Scoot being a LCC dont have transfer desk desk facility unless you purchase Scoot Thru: Scoot-Thru - The Fastest Way Between Flights | Get cheap flights at FlyScoot.com!

When JohnK mentioned the transfer desk service and checked luggage - do as JK says and show them your checked luggage receipt tags and they will locate your checked luggage and re-tag them to the final destination without you first getting the bags yourself.

QF has decided to not check through passengers and their luggage from Jul1 but passengers have until Aug 31 as a grace period. So you should still be OK in that regard. If not then use the transfer desks.

Maybe QF can offer a Scoot thru service as an "enhancement" to the Oneworld interline service previously provided.

2.5 hours should be OK.

Thanks JohnK

I've had a 2PNR experience with SIN airport.

QF-MH Vica versa and therefore terminals are at the opposite ends of the airport.
Hand luggage only so I can't comment on checked luggage apart from JohnK advice.

Both times because of the separate tickets issue, I informed the first airline of the connection to the 2nd flight.
Both times delays ate into my 2hr buffer.
Both times a ground agent met me at the gate once with an electric cart without my request.

How is this service initiated??
