Six million people a year would use train to Melbourne Airport

Not so easy as Transurban would need to be compensated under their "exclusive " contract.
Could make train fares as high as the Sydney train ride to their airport.

Guessing you didn't read the article.

About 12,500 workers travel to the Melbourne airport each day and, contrary to widespread belief, the Citylink contracts do not prevent construction of a heavy passenger rail link to the airport.

$16 is a bargain for an airport train. I use airport trains when ever possible, beats paying $50 for a cab. It is hard to believe that Melbourne does not have one.

I agree, except when there are 3 or more and luggage other than CO.

Really. I've yet to see someone who can't get on board during the Monday morning peak.

Depends on whether you have just arrived after 36 hours of flying. I for one couldn't face a train journey at that point. Maybe different on the way to the airport. But still would prefer quiet and more comfort. Different if you're flying Dom on a commuter flight maybe

Yes, well I left out a word. Fair enough.

It was serious question, however. How do you define airlines as a type of transport. I'd really like to know how they fit given your definition of public transport.

Airlines are "commercial" Vs "Public" as ( and not always) generally speaking "Public" transport involves some kind of government input, minimum service standards, price subsidies etc. airlines try to run for profit. Public transport as more of a public service.

Uber\Paker\Gina\Blackmore's\SUPER COMPANY great advertising opportunity.... Trains are moving signs! Get a government tax deduction!

That would not be correct - See here for a very thorough analyses:

Myth: The Citylink contract forbids airport trains - Public Transport Users Association (Victoria, Australia)

Myth: We can’t have airport trains because the Citylink contract forbids it

Fact: Although the Citylink Concession Deed requires the State Government to compensate Transurban if it acts in certain ways that might restrict Citylink revenue, the terms of the contract indicate an airport rail link would only trigger compensation if it carries freight. ...

The Sydney experience shows that every year, more people will use a train.

It remains disgraceful that Melbourne lacks an airport train. Skybus is not a good substitute.

In 3 days all Public buses will terminate at T4 and Skybus will continue to stop at T1 and T3

[h=3]A new bus interchange at Melbourne Airport opens[/h] From 30 November 2015, a new bus interchange at Melbourne Airport will open, providing customers with a new undercover bus interchange located at domestic Terminal Four (T4).
The existing bus interchange located at Terminal 1 (T1) will no longer be in operation.
The new T4 bus interchange provides direct access to Tiger Airways, Jetstar and Regional Express services, with all other airlines departing from T1, T2 and T3.
T4 bus interchange is located approximately 10 minutes’ walk from T1, so customers are reminded to plan ahead and consider additional travel time to access T1, T2 and T3.
Bus Routes that will service the new T4 bus interchange:

  • Route 478: Airport West to Melbourne Airport
  • Route 479: Airport West to Sunbury via Melbourne Airport and return
  • Route 482: Airport West To Melbourne Airport (via South Centre Road)
  • Route 901: Melbourne Airport to Frankston (SMARTBUS Service)

The T1 stop is making way for the new train stop that will appear from a tunnel ;)
Oh wait that's another 400million blown from coming budget cause that idea was pulled after announcement...... Utopia.... You viewing this?

It's not even 20km to the airport. Why do we need a 200km/h rail link to it? I could understand if the train continued on to somewhere else (e.g. Ballarat, Bendigo), but this is just a joke. I'd be more than happy with a regular metro line with stops in between as long as they charged regular fares.

We still love our Transurban shares. Thank you for using their toll roads signed The Troll.
