It's not just their opinion though, the ABC does consistently rank as one of the most trusted news sources in Australia (link, p13) - certainly far higher than Sky does.

And it's also far less polarising than Sky News (link, p35)

I would agree, it's unlikely this was made on ideological grounds and more likely to be cost cutting. To Qantas' credit, they also signed a deal with AFR.
You may prefer to receive your news from Sky instead of ABC, which is an opinion you are of course entitled to have. But that is different to the majority of the population, who do trust ABC more than Sky.
Surveys are not facts. It's a collection of opinions, often a very small and misrepresented collection.
I don't trust that figure above at all, considering it says Courier Mail & Daily Tele is left of CNN. Come on! What absolute nonsense.
Majority of the population watch ABC because it's free, Sky is (generally) not. It's as simple as that. Sky News is the top rating channel on foxtel and the #1 news channel on social media.
I'm not advocating for either, but I find it strange people want to shut down media. Typically we frown on other nations with a single news agency, especially when it's government owned. People should welcome media from a variety of sources.
