SkyBus gone up again [Up to $23.90 one way]

An airport line via the Upfield line might be viable if they skyrail the line through Brunswick, etc as proposed.

It's a legitimate question but the difference now is that Melbourne Airport's management are saying one is required.

However, you are correct in that it seems a lot easier for roads to get funded, either new or widened.

They may say it's required but their actions speak louder than words. They hide the current suburban bus services way down past terminal four where they are very hard to find. If the Airport management really believed public transport was required they would would let existing services near the airport.

Anyone heard of or been following this mob?

Airshuttle Australia | Transporting tomorrow's Melbourne

Strikes me as innovative and they claim it's a fraction of the cost of heavy rail which I would believe.

Interesting idea. Looks like it's basically a monorail. The elevated track reminds me of the new HSR elevated track in China. Not much to look at, but it works. Any issues about more "skyrail" should be alleviated if the route is mainly down the middle of freeways.

I'm a bit sceptical about their claims of being massively cheaper. Also, it's going to be difficult to integrate this into the rest of the rail network even before one considers the potential to be a private railway line, a la Skybus on tracks.

Well this may help to reduce the costs for some:

Well this may help to reduce the costs for some:

I'd hardly call it an 'express' if it's on the Tullamarine Freeway and CityLink during the busiest times.

Stop-start, slow for roadworks, slow to XXkmh due to congestion.....

Hopeless compared with a proper airport train (not a monorail)!

It is "Express" point to point.

It may stop on the way especially on the Tulla car park but the doors don't open. :p

Well it was worth getting a return for $29.75 and 250 VA bonus points, so I snapped one up for my trip next month.

I'm not worried about the Tulla car park, because it would be costing me double via taxi or Uber with their time component to the fare.

One day I'll look at the 901 and train, but for now I'm happy.

I did the train + 901 the other week going to the airport. For some reason, there was no 901 for 45 mins at Broadmeadows. Doesn't seem to be very reliable sometimes.

The PTV app provides GPS updates. Sometimes you can see there is enough time to rock over to the shopping centre for a squiz.

Going to Melbourne in a few weeks and staying in St Kilda on the Esplanade so was going to get Sky bus to city and the uber from city to St Kilda

bit of a whinge, but how I wish Melb airport had a train station!
I have no qualms even if they charge exorbitantly like they do in SYD.

A few weeks ago some truck rolled over at 10am on the tully fwy and at 4.30pm it still took me 2.5hrs from the MCG to the airport, barely made it with 15min till take off. no time to eat dinner prior to boarding either.

then we find out there was an aircraft problem so had to change aircrafts and there wasn't enough time to transfer the catering across, no dinner on-board either..grr
