Sleeping on planes......

Fortunately haven't been through the brace command. But I am pretty certain that there would be other things going on that would awaken most.
As to gate to gate IFE I am sure that would be off in an emergency as it is for any passenger announcement.

That is probably true for a planned emergency landing. But not necessarily so for an unplanned emergency. If you look at the QF1 accident report for bangkok... nothing was suspected in the cabin until after an otherwise normal touchdown.

If the emergency is unplanned and no formal 'brace' command is issued using the tannoy there won't be any interruption of IFE (ie cabin crew calling out 'brace' or other commands unaided). If you're otherwise preoccupied you are potentially slower to react.

So Qantas that has ~ 300,000 flights per year you come up with one instance of a problem if you happen to be sleeping.
Sorry but there are a lot more things I need to worry about than someone asleep in an aisle seat.

Fair point, but isn't most aircraft safety predicated on the 'one in a million'?

Gate to gate IFE is a bigger issue. Unfortunately it will probably take a major accident to identify if there are any problems.

I am not a good sleeper at the best of times with usually 4-5 broken sleep per night.

When planning long haul trips I look for daytime flights wherever possible. Even in J I might be lucky and jag a couple of hours here and there. I cannot remember the last time I flew long haul in Y

I prefer to book a good Hotel at destination to catch up on sleep and prepare for the adventure.
