AJ said the other day that they would consider running repatriation flights beyond the end of March to pick up large groups of Aussies stranded overseas - and that they have the planes and people to be able to do it - but that they/DFAT didn't know where everyone was. If only there was a way for them to keep track of things like that...

That was the whole point in shutting it down. Only 30% of people used it so they’d only know where 30% of people were.

And now they know where 0% of people are. ;)

Once this is all over and a new/updates system is implemented, I reckon there will be a higher participation rate than 30%, especially after tales of woe that will be splashed all over the media of people stranded in difficult circumstances around the world.

When it comes to emergency management, having 30% of the data is more dangerous than having 0% of the data.

For years I have been trying to get DFAT to include details of the travel agent or booking agent used. The majority of posts here refer to the traveler needing help, however just as importantly there could be circumstances back home that require immediate contact with the traveller. In most cases the agent will have an itinerary and should therefore have current contact details.

But, many people (I suggest most holiday makers) do not use a TA, and book directly with the service provider.
