So I broke my ankle...

While physio can be very useful, a physiology told me once it is not needed in all cases but everyone gets a referral to cover someones backside.

I had (past tense) a girlfriend who was a sports physio and she could be quite dismissive of my need for a shoulder rub.

That's probably why she's an EX-girlfriend.

I fell down our stairs at home 8yrs ago - stone cold sober - broke my ankle and req plate and 7 screws - 1 month in plaster and on crutches - then 6mths road back - unbelievably debilitating..................

30 years ago I broke my right ankle ( slipped on wet sandstones steps at MIL house !) in plaster cast for 6 weeks - foot still badly bruised when it came out of plaster. That one didn't slow me down too much.

2 years ago I broke my left AND right ankles and leg - at the same time !!! ( fell over in our garden ) R leg has 2 plates and 12 screws - 5 weeks in hospital, very long rehab. Walking was difficult for some time ! Even now going upstairs can be painful and sometime I can feel a screw.

Never broken anything but did tear off my anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments as well as the medial ligament resulting in a knee reconstruction.
Yes, it was painful. Mind you, compared to a friend who drove himself to the hospital with a burst aorta mine was nothing.
That doesn't sound fun either. Seems a lot of people have broken bones.
It was painful! And a total PITA. However, I had the best surgeon and physio. Physio should never be under estimated...

Doesn't help that I blew my anterior cruciate and medial ligaments on the same leg :( The surgeons and Physio did a great job - years later I've just averaged walking 9.5k's/day over 30 days around Europe and we're all set to tackle Machu Picchu in May.
Glad to hear that it doesn't limit you. I managed to find a top physio in Perth, with top prices also haha

Rolled my ankle in Jordan a few years ago, then went over on it again in Damascus a couple of weeks later, lots of pain killers till I got home, ankle reconstruction as I had pulled off a ligament with a small piece of bone attached, back slab for 2 weeks then 4 weeks in a boot.
Still swollen now and boy do I know when we are about to have a storm. Got tired of walking around in circles with the boot on.
Got some x-rays somewhere, don't think anyone would really be interested though.

Have to add, 'do the physio'..........
Can't imagine doing it in a foreign country with not knowing the standard of healthcare. I think my situation may be similar with regards to the bone being pulled off.

I think there are other factors at play there...

Hopefully you are 100% recovered now. I can never understand how doctors can put plates and screws inside the body - thankfully I never pursued that path.

15+ broken bones here (mainly arms, a couple of fingers, big ones were jaw and cheekbone). Suspect I have the mild form of osteogenesis imperfecta.

Ruptured my plantar fascia about 6 months before Jonathon Brown (AFL legend) made it popular. Had to wear the moonboot for 2 months (including to an AFF meet where I was called gimpy!) but luckily avoided surgery.

I had to google that one. For the non-medicos - It's brittle bone disease. That's the highest total in the thread. Can anyone top 15?

Finally found the XRAYs - as you can see surgeon was clearly on the vinegar pre-op - as 86 would say - 'Missed by that much'!

But wait - there can be an upside - I have used these images when making a number of hotel bookings where I definitely wanted ground floor rooms close to pools or didn't want to be climbing 1 or 2 stories if no advantage from enhanced view etc - when scanning make sure you crop out info panel showing dates etc then you open expiration date for usage - you know things like - 'Please ensure I am given ground floor room adjacent to pool as I recently broke my ankle and am unable to climb stairs'!

Fractured my left wrist when I was 7-8 years old falling off monkey bars. Didn't tell anyone. Many weeks later out playing late one night when dad/mum came looking for me and grabbed me by the hand. Ouch! Went everywhere. Nothing they could do as wrist was already set. Only solution was to break wrist again and re set. No way. Still have issues today.

Chipped a bone in right arm when I was 17 years old. Had a half cast for 5-6 weeks. Disrupted school slightly as I took notes left handed and lost interest.

Fractured right ankle when I was 36 years old at golf. Our first hole was the 9th hole and fractured ankle on 11th tee. Birdied the 12th and finished the round 12 over. Someone wheeled my golf cart around and I hobbled on 2 golf clubs. Didn't think it was fractured. Had a half cast for ~5-6 weeks.
