Today I had good service from the AMEX call centre - I think because it's not the Platinum Card service team!
I canceled my Platinum cards a while ago due to the horrible service as posted a couple of times before and got a AMEX Blue card just to keep a card with them.
When the card arrived it had a low limit of $6,500 and I didn't bother until today to ask if my previous limit can be transfered - wasn't giving it much hope though ...
Guess what the AMEX rep was really nice, said he looks into it, ask me for my previous Platinum card number and said it all looks good they will now transfer the old limit and add the $6,500 on top it ... I was blown away!
I had a similar thing before with Platinum where I upgraded from Gold and my new Platinum card had a limit of I believe $5,000 whereby my previous Gold had > $20,000. When I called the Platinum service back then I just got a rude "we assessed you according to the information you provided and the credit limit stands". They didn't even bother trying to look into my history and previous card. Only after escalating and threatening to cancel could I get the Platinum services team to re-instate my old limit on the Platinum card.
This comparison of service received shows it all. I am personally convinced that the issue is the AMEX Platinum Services team. Everything I wanted when I was a Platinum member was first answered with a no or took me 2 follow up calls to get it done.
This is the world upside down ... everyone go for BLUE instead of PLATINUM!
