So we are on the inaugural QF A380 flight

Do have a look at Virgin; their in flight facilities do look a lot nicer than you'd get on AA domestic coach class unless you are using miles or are desperate for FF miles

Indeed, my friends in LA sing their praises all the time. Still kicking myself for not flying them when I could've.

Do they fly out of LAX as I thought that they were SFO based only?

Ooh - Virgin America does look good. We were a bit concerned about walking out of Business class then connecting with Coach.

How much time will I need to allow for a connection?

And if I was to buy cheapy flights, would AA be more forgiving if I was late arriving from a QF connection than Virgin would be?

Hah! Well that will teach me to put the cart before the horse. Due to the funny scheduling of the A380 in the first weeks of service, means we fly over Monday 20th October and then fly back either Monday 27th October (to MEL) or Friday 31st (to SYD). I feel like 13 days is too long for the grandparents to look after the kids (the youngest is two) so we will come back on the 27th which doesn't give us enough time to fly to NY and enjoy the free five nights at the Beverly Wilshire in LA.

If only all my problems were this difficult......;) Thanks for all the tips so far, it has really helped in building our anticipation.
