So... what car do you guys drive when not flying?

But I'm thinking of waiting another 12+ months when I retire and look at picking one up second hand as they come off the corporate leases, and still in warranty.
If you’re employed by a company which does novated leases, consider buying one now on a 1 year lease to take advantage of the FBT exemption, and time it so that it ends before you retire.
Budget for 2 years insurance in the first year of the lease. It’s likely you’ll come out ahead (or even, but have the benefit of a new car).

So far, very good, it has plenty of go, plenty of room for us 2. Indicators on wrong side, which is a pain when I drive the RS!
It is all wheel drive, but not really suitable to go extreme offroading. :)
The lane warning system is much better than any other car I have driven with that feature.
Overall, quite pleased.
I found it dangerous to drive, multiple times it slammed on the brakes for us driving through Montenegro, thinking we were about to hit a car but the closest car was on the other side of the road and not at all close to us in any dimension.

Hmmm, haven't had that happen yet, interesting!

Hmmm….

…….BYD’s fine print as things like shock absorbers, bushings, wheel bearings and the multimedia system aren’t covered for the entire warranty period. Instead, they drop off the plan after three years/60,000km.

Decisions decisions...

I've asked colleague in Germany to see if he can get the injector seals and pipe from Germany and air mail them out to me rather than wait 8 weeks for local Mercedes dealer.

Still considering in the BYD Seal (relatively cheap and good battery design) and looking maybe at an EQA 250+ night edition (affordable). The others EQC/EQE etc are far too expensive. Just have to consider whether I should get my first EV or not, no solar panels so charged from mains. But we don't do a lot of driving these days so probably would be ok. I think the wall charger is about $2500 plus fitting...

We had that in a VW we rented whilst driving from Paris to Reims, the car did an emergency brake as it assumed the speed dropped to 80 because there was an 80 sign on the off ramp, we were driving 130 at the time, scared the bejesus out of all of us

Should have let me know! Could have brought them in for you.

You can turn all these ‘aids’ off, but it’s not very intuitive how to do that, sometimes even as an owner. They should leave these off by default on any rentals.

Had this exact thing in Italy on the motorways. The speed gets auto-adjusted to that of some side road. Absolutely miraculous we weren't rear-ended. Couldn't figure out how to turn it off. It's just as 'exhilarating' when it jumps in speed too. I like the look of the Arteon but can't/won't buy VW due to their emissions debacle.

Never had a car that did this until my most recent. Coming up to an intersection with a car turning left so I proceed to accelerate as I am quite capable of judgeing the situation. Suddenly the brakes jam up leaving my car at a dead stop in the middle of the intersection with no control for a couple of seconds, enough to get me killed had something untoward happened. Meanwhile said car ahead is 80-100m up the side road. I turn it off now.

That's one option, but then I've always been a tightwad when it comes to cars, and not wanting to wave goodbye to real money through depreciation. I picked up my. Beemer ten years ago second hand (my first 'badge' car) and it's been brilliant - but it's getting on. Hence my hopes that the second hand value of EVs continues to tank, so I can pick one up at a good price.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers announced at a Business Council of Australia dinner in Canberra on Wednesday night that road a tax for electric vehicles is on the agenda if they win the next election.
IMO it’s inevitable as the government cannot afford to reduce the $15 billion revenue it receives from fuel tax.

Amused to see that a certain political party is claiming the home affairs minister is driving a “Chinese spy car”. :) :)

An RUC is a great idea. All vehicles should contribute to roads capital works and maintenance. Just do it on a per km basis. The pink slip records the odometer - easy. For the new cars with 5 year exemption - just a declaration is all that is needed
