Hi All,

I recently got the double status credits fly buys offer and I was considering taking a flight to help me re qualify for status. I am currently platinum (and have been for 3 years) although it's highly unlikely I will retain it this year. If I don't requalify will I get a soft landing to gold or do I still need to earn the minimum requirement & sectors to be eligible for gold status?

This will determine if I book any flights.

Thanks!

AFAIK you will still get the soft landing to Gold - I reached Platinum a couple of years ago (and there was no way I was going to requalify at that level LOL) and one of the reasons I made such an effort to get there (double SC offer with husband pooling to my account got me over the line) was because of the soft landing, as I knew I wasn't going to be doing enough travel to requalify for Gold the following year - gave me some breathing space to be able to save up for another international trip!

Thanks Jurhan.

I tweeted VA this question and they said I would only be given whatever status level I had achieved in the year (I.e. no soft landing)

Anyone have any recent experience with this?

T&C's are the thing to read.... https://www.velocityfrequentflyer.com/content/ProgramBenefits/TermsConditions/#membershiplevels

section 22.6.1 will answer your question

22.6 Downgrading a Membership Level
22.6.1 If the total number of Status Credits earned and Eligible Sectors flown at a Member’s Review Date does not meet the criteria in clause 22.1.4 to maintain their current Membership Level, then the Member’s Membership Level will be downgraded to the Membership Level below their current Membership Level.

so yes.. a soft landing

Ah, yes. The infamous T&C's, why didn't I think of that?! Looks like the social media team at VA need to read them as well!
