Some QFi flight timetables mostly slowed

I think Melburnian1 and I have had a couple of 'barnies' on AFF in the past :) but I can't for the life of me understand the jibes going 'his' way on this. If what's been said is wrong, or mis-represented, or said in bad faith sure, let it rip.

But if you just don't like the notion per se, just ignore it and go somewhere else.

Posted flight timings are important, be they real, projected or historical. I'm glad the issue was brought up here. Thanks again, Melburnian1. (But I'm still up for some biff on other issues :) )

N860CR, increasing running ('block') times for domestic flights has been occurring in Australia for many years.

Years ago, SYD to MEL southbound was 75 minutes. Today it is normally 95 minutes.

However I don't believe that QFi or other operators have been constantly slavishly increasing running times for international flights. With the exception of Trans-Tasman flights, most international flights are significantly longer than the majority of domestic flights (although PER-DPS or DRW-DPS compared to PER-MEL, SYD or BNE is either an exception or close to it) so one assumes that as a percentage of the total timetabled allowance, time spent either in a holding pattern or on the apron waiting ATC clearance might tend to be less than for domestic flights.

So thank you for the nice compliment. It's a side of travel by air that is little publicised.

While I don't subscribe to the notion that if I had an extra 15 minutes I would necessarily use it productively (I might just 'waste' it), judging by the number of Australian capital city motorists who run amber or red traffic lights, there are plenty who chase every minute like their life depended on it. This group might also include many of the high powered frequent flyers, rather than the doddery old pensioners like me whose patronage doesn't really matter much to any airline.

Ok what time do other airlines using the same aircraft state as their flight time Sydney-Melbourne? Maybe congestion has cause flight times to change or maybe other airlines are being unrealistic if they state shorter times.

farstar, yes, apologies.

With the domestic flights, all operators have adopted (for instance) 95 minutes southbound SYD - MEL and 85 minutes northbound MEL to SYD.

It's similar on other routes, the vast majority of which domestically are significantly slower than 20 years ago, due to increasing airport congestion both on the ground and (as a result) increased time spent in holding patterns.

However none of the airlines have made flights at say 2205 ex SYD five minutes faster than ones departing the NSW capital at 1800 on weekdays when the former time is typically a lot less busy than the latter.

However my OP was about international flight times not domestic, so let's return to the issue I initially highlighted.
