Hi,

I was wondering when we might hear more about the South African Airways partnership and reciprocal benefits in particular? The last I saw was that we'd hear more in 'Early 2015'.

I'm likely to be making a trip to South Africa at the end of May, so it would be great to use my Velocity status on these flights.

Thanks,

James.

Hi James,

Thank you for your interest in our upcoming partnership with South African Airways.

The team is still working through several technical aspects of the partnership to ensure we have all our ducks in a row for a smooth launch. We hope to advise as soon as possible about when you can enjoy your Velocity benefits on SAA.

My travel agent has just booked a SYD-PER-JNB-CPT-LUN-JNB-PER-SYD on SAA last week and I can see it in the 'My Bookings' section of the Velocity site. it also lists me as platinum and says I have the Platinum baggage allowance on all flights listed (CPT-LUN-JNB isn't listed though, just the international flights and JNB-CPT link). I assume this means points and other bennies must be valid on those flights too.

Is the flight operated by SAA or Airlink? I'm here at the moment for a while and it is a bit confusing. All SAA flights recognize my StarGold status, but anything on Airlink (similar to QantasLink) is excluded.

Not really sure, the actual ticket they provide isn't that detailed (it has a SA number), and I've not looked into it further yet - was just interested to find it in my Velocity bookings. I think one of the flights is a Mango one, so I knew that won't be included.

So hopefully VFF can offer an answer. If the flights for next week are in the VA system am I going to get points for them, or am I better off putting my EK number on them?

Hi grubbidok, if you are booked on VA codeshare services (with a VA flight number) you will be able to earn. However, you will not be able to earn on SA flight numbers until reciprocal loyalty benefits officially commence between Velocity and SAA.
