Southern California- Lake Tahoe to Yosemite

Hey team, is there anything interesting or cool to check out between Tahoe & Yosemite? We will be driving from Tahoe with a day and night to spare.

I recall driving down the 88 from Tahoe to Jackson as a pretty scenic drive...open mountain type scenery and I had fresh snow...I was in no hurry so drove to Jackson then thru Sacremento for lunch and then into San Fran.

Thank you. Might look into Sacramento as a place to stop overnight. This is for an upcoming trip so no snow unfortunately!

Go down the east side of the sierras on US395. Mono lake (and the mono tufa), June Lake loop, mammoth lakes, devils postpile. Then enter Yosemite at the Tioga Pass entrance.

If going the Sacramento way, there are some interesting ghost towns that may interest.

Definitely the way to go. Sacramento is nice, but the Mono Lake (think Pink Floyd!) is a great sight, and lots of features around Mammoth.

Depends how early you want to hit Yosemite the next day. Mammoth Lakes is the biggest town so that’s the obvious place to stay but it is the furthest from Yosemite. Lee Vining is the town on Mono Lake and is the closest to the east entrance to Yosemite. You could jump in your car and be through the gate 20 minutes later. So I’d say one of those.

Note that Yosemite Valley (which I presume you will want to visit) is a further 90min drive along CA120 from the entrance to the park at Tioga Pass. If you have time be sure to stop at the sites along way, they are spectacular. Tuolomne Meadows and Olmsted Point for sure.

From memory, there is a 9 hole golf course sitting all on it's own on the Eastern side of Sacremento, worth the two hour stop in the journey.

Don't be offput by the bear footprints in the bunkers...

One point to note that you may or may not be aware of is that Yosemite currently has a permit system in place until 30 September for entry between 6am & 4pm. If you don’t have one and are unable to get one I would suggest simply arriving before 6am. It’s well worth having an absolutely full day there anyway.
