Tasmania is on the "usual" sale cycle currently.

Not particularly cheap TBH.

Is that the QF sale that was emailed out yesterday? I agree with you, I thought it was a rip off as far as sales go. I think we'll just get a couple of the ANZ Adventurer cards and use the free flights.

Yep. I will probably buy a commercial ticket given I am not coming far, but happy to wait and see if the prices get better at this stage.

If anyone is willing to brave DeathStar, it is currently on sale for 45 AUD MEL-HBA, and 39 AUD MEL-LST for the no bag/no seat selection starter fare, with other low fares likely available from other origins (also booked CNS-OOL for later on for 75 AUD as an example). I booked MEL-LST already, I can survive DeathStar for an hour :D. Rental car officially booked as well now that I have my flights solidified.

Have only just noticed this thread.

Would love to come, but not sure yet if the date will work for us.

Would love to come but we are travelling for 24 of the next 35 weeks and I do need to add a little to the finances to continue this life style.

Geez, haven't you heard our Prime Minister?

I shall confer with Mrs GPH, we have a lot on, but this sounds like fun.
we are a maybe at this stage

We have to go to Tas on the previous weekend (ie Melbourne Cup weekend) to this function to "bump out" my #2 son who's finishing his degree at AMC.
No $39 airfare for us! Over $1100 on the SOT Melbourne - Devonport return. We're thinking we'll spend a couple of nights at Cradle Mountain (and perhaps go see the "smokehouse" on the shores of Dove Lake  {which will only make sense if you've watched the latest safety video on QFi}).

Hmm interesting, depending which campus, AMC might be under my general purview under my scope of work. Cant divulge details though haha :D

Quite a bit more luggage space on SOT...

It really is not competitive with flying unless you want/need your own vehicle on the apple isle. I have been saying for years that I would like to so SOT, but still haven't done it. Cost is a big factor, as I can fly to DPO, rent a car and it's generally cheaper unless you stay a really long time (or are "moving" in your case).

Has he got a job lined up?

Then why say anything?

As far as I am aware, all of AMC is part of UTas, and Beauty Point & Bell Bay are just offsite training locations.

As a point of reference, I was on the SOT last night DPO - MEL - $288 one way with vehicle and private room. (Now in ADL....)
