Just received this email from SPG. Discounts not allowed for breakfasts though.

Never knew this programme existed. How long will this programme last? I think it is an excellent idea. Hope it becomes more permanent!

Drron, a 15% discount applied to our dining at Basil and Rossini's last week. Discount was advertised in our welcome letter also. Hope this stays a while.

That is good news but probably a hotel specific promo that SGS often does. The best was 30% off when we stayed during last years floods.

Just dined at Garden Court (the lobby lounge) in the St Regis Beijing this evening.

Presented SPG Gold Card. Was given the chit that is apparently used to calculate the SPG points I will earn on the meal. However, no discount was applied. I asked the lounge manager and showed her the website, which showed that it (along with the other St Regis Beijing bars/restaurants) were supposed to get a 15% discount. She knew nothing about it so rang a supervisor. Was told the promotion "ended last month".

This is inconsistent with what the website says though, since there is no expiry date I can see, and certainly not for the Garden Lounge. Who should I complain to to get my 15% refunded? It may only be A$8-10 but that's still A$8-10 that I should be entitled to keep.

I think you should complain to SPG directly via an email (so at least they have time to digest the complaint easily compared to if it was on the phone), and if you don't get a response within 2 days, follow up with a phone call.
I've done this to the Priority Club before when they've stuffed up.

The other way if you dont get a response to an email is to go on FT and PM one of the Lurkers there. They really are good in resolving problems.

Thanks for the tips. I just gave the info to an online chat representative and they said I should hear back within 5 days. She also offered 250 StarPoitns as a goodwill gesture for the inconvenience caused.

Thought I should update everyone on progress.

After speaking to the online chatroom representative at about 6pm last night, this morning at 10.30am I received an e-mail from the Food & Beverage Manager at the St Regis Beijing. The lady apologised for the inconvenience and stated that while it was difficult to refund the equivalent of 15% for "security reasons" (I'm not sure why), she invited me to try the Signature Afternoon Tea for free (or a meal in the Garden Lounge restaurant) and to meet with her personally as a valued SPG Gold guest.

I love afternoon tea and it is certainly worth much more than the 30RMB the discount would have given me, so I'm very pleased with the result. Looking forward to trying it out soon!

I am staying at a Starwood resort in Fiji soon, just checked the site and 15% at Westin and Sheraton. :)
Lets hope the offer works when I get there!

Tried using this at their Moo Moo steak restaurant, staff said no discount only if you have voucher, showed them my Gold SPG card and the T+C's on my phone. They still said no, after speaking with the cashier they manually edited the bill to include 15% off, luckily on checkout the amount was right.

I'm going to use the Fiji restaurants in January so I was wondering if they would have any problems with this.

Pleased to report that Westin Tianjin had no problems with this. In fact all their outlets have 15% off, and sitting in the lobby bar the tv screen even advertised the SPG dining offer in English and Chinese.

Finally took up this offer and say I was most impressed.

As soon as I said I had a reservation they instantly knew who I was and escorted me to my seat. The assigned waitress was exceptional - constantly smiling, asking if things were OK, refilling the tea/coffee/water, changing plates and cutlery over, same for the serviettes. The F&B Manager and the Garden Lounge Manager both introduced themselves at various points to present their business cards and urged me to contact them if I ever have future problems or need help organising bookings etc. After the afternoon tea my colleague decided to order a burger. We were surprised to discover that they declined to charge for that too. After he left I stayed for another hour sipping tea and checking emails on my phone using their wifi etc. Then another waitress asked if I enjoyed the afternoon tea, and if I'd be interested in some fruit. I was surprised, but decided to choose some dragonfruit (watermelon and oranges were also offered). Five minutes later a beautiful large silver tray full of a ridiculous amount of perfectly slices dragonfruit arrives.

Was very impressed by their service. I think I might send the waitress my entire book of those SPG cards you're supposed to give to them for good service.
