Splitting one trip into two segments

Hi All,

I am asking here as I am nervous calling the Qantas call centre as I don't want to risk them accidentally cancelling my rewards booking. That being said, it might be that I have to either leave the ticket as it is or take the risk

We have a rewards booking on Emirates - from Amsterdam to Bris at the end of Jan. We are now thinking of stopping over in Dubai so looking at flying into Dubai a few days earlier therefore keeping our Dubai - Bris sector (which is often harder to get). I can see flights from Ams to Dubai for a few days earlier so no issue re availability there but when I try to do a multi city booking - I cannot see a Dubai to Bris sector on the date we want to fly (and have a booking for now). Has anyone successfully been able to split the segments on a rewards booking on a partner airline? Is it worth doing or are we best leaving the booking as it to avoid having the entire booking accidentally cancelled. Anyone got any advice, tips, experiences please?

It's worth calling to ask. Should be fine unless the AMS-DXB-BNE is booked as a 'married segment', in which case Qantas won't be able to split. But no harm asking.

Thanks - I suspect it was booked as a married sector but cannot recall as the booking was made in early feb. I did do a dummy booking for a couple of weeks time (given that Emirates releases seats a few weeks out) and it required the same amount of points so maybe it is an option to split?

Number of points isn't a factor

You will pay sector prices if you add a stopover. But it really depends if the segments are married or not. Only way to find out is to call.

So I called the call centre today (once I was able to make call from my OPTUS mobile - lol) and yes sadly it is a married segment ticket so we would have to cancel and rebook the entire ticket. The agent did say she could see reward seats on the flight we are on (Dubai to Bris) but I don't have enough points to secure a booking now and she said it could take up to 3 business days to get the points back when we cancel the existing booking. Unfortunately it is too risky to do so as it would throw our plans in disarray so we will probably leave it as it is (unless someone wants to shout me about 300k points - lol). Thanks for all of the advice
