[SPOILER ALERT: Up in the Air] What does Ryan Bingham do at the end.......

I say he heads back to work. The opening was there, he saw the light and got burnt so will head back to his way of living life.

Overall a good movie. I did cringe a little at the FF stuff. A little over the top IMHO.

Less than 15 people in my cinema too - but seeing I saw it at 3:10pm on a Mon, not really unexpected.

1/ I thought his commentary in the clouds as the end made it pretty clear as to what he was doing..

2/ I thought OP showed very poor form with the wording of the Subject of his post...thus spoiling it for people such as me who had yet to see the movie (which I have now done).

I mean What does Ryan Bingham do at the end.......

is a huge flag about the direction of the conclusion of the movie.

I disagree. There's no statement made as to what he's doing at the end of the movie to pose the question. Having seen the movie several times (after this post) I can say it was no spoiler for me. I saw the thread title only, and it didn't spoil the plot line at all.

It would be like saying "what does x do at the end of y movie". No spoiler there really as you don't know the situation they end up in at the end of the film.

Anyway, I still loved it:)

Spoiler alert. Turn away if you have not yet seen "Up in the Air".

Anyway, in the final scene, Ryan stands before a great board of departure flights and chooses to do what exactly?........it's been puzzling me.

a) continues to work in his job

I would go with a)

When I saw it there was about 100 at the cinema. Tuesday night.

I would give it 8/9 out of 10.

Will probably see it again some time; and or buy it in DVD.

Hmm, I don't really agree at all. I'd seen this thread (but not read it), before I saw it at the cinema. It didn't influence me as to how the movie went.

I see the thread title as more generic rather than specific - ie, what is he doing now... the sort of question that makes Facebook / Classmates (in particular) / Myspace / Linkedin etc so popular.

When am I going to get time to watch it at the theatre anyway. Just wait until it get's onto Foxtel channels that I watch

I ... watched it ... It was OK, but not as good as I had expected. ...

I thought it was really good - much better than expected and wasn't as cheesy as I thought it would have been.

But only in Gold Class :D :D :D

Yup. housemate and I went and saw it in gold class. Seeing as it's like a pay-for J lounge, it was a fitting way to see a movie about an excessively frequent flyer:)

And it'll be added to my DVD collection when it comes out. Brilliant film (even without the FF references - just a very well written and directed film).

... I am not sure if the movie meets expectations. It is not bad - just not great. ...

........probably best you don't go see Titanic.

Yes good example....as a spoiler is about providing new knowldege.

If someone tipped you off in advance about the conclusion of the romance in the latest version in advance one would be annoyed...

Whereas saying the ship sunk which is what you are lamely referring to is clearly not an issue. The latest Titanic movie by the way was not so much about the Titanic as about the central couple. Hints about them would a spoiler. Hints about the ship sinking would not be...

I just got blasted in TOTT about revealing too much when I provided little more than what you'd see in a newspaper, online review or IMDB, which clearly flags "spoiler material".

I thought the movie was very good - I saw it yesterday and this is after I have read this thread, the Flyertalk thread, the Wikipedia article on the movie, IMDB and the script for an old version of the movie. I still thought that the movie was good and I don't usually see movies because I think today's movies are far too predictable. If I thought it was that good even after seeing so much and my approach to movies, I think it's safe to say that no one has stepped over the line on this forum and anyone that doesn't want to know too much about the movie before seeing it has either (a) had enough warning not to read these threads, or (b) hasn't seen enough that would spoil the movie for them.

New knowledge? Please. Reading movie blurbs in the paper will give you the title character (not to mention he's played by Clooney). The only thing this thread topic might tell you is that he doesn't die, apart from that, big deal - you haven't learnt much at all! You haven't guessed any of the plot, unless you're a sadis_ or just lucky. And you're still missing out on the experience to have your own appreciation tested by the movie by seeing it.

[/rant over]

Also reckon that he continues in the same job. Loved the story and the way that it did not have the typical Hollywood 'happy ending.' A group of us were discussing it last night after our Australia Day BBQ and it was interesting to hear the mixed reviews, although we all seem to give it at least a 7 (out of 10). Our favourite parts were the crashing of the IT conference party and the conversation amongst the 3 main characters after the one had been dumped by sms...a typical MBA, Gen Y outlook on life...oh to be so positive and focussed again, instead of having had the realities of life bash all of that youthful enthusiasm out of you...;)

You're kidding right? "Titanic" (James Cameron's version) was ALL about sinking the ship. He just had to fill time up until that point so the most implausible romance since Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt in "As good as it Gets" was constructed. And the treasure hunter back-filler story flowed from that. I know it's the movies, and creative license and all that, but sheesh....just sink the bloody ship already and spare us ridiculous!

On topic, I saw "Up in the Air" last night and I agree about the spoiler alert....OP gave nothing away. And it's very clear that he continues to work "on the road". He says as much in the end narration ("one of the lights in the sky will be the tail light of my flight" ..... or something like that!).

I saw the movie as a role reversal type and put an intense spotlight on modern relationships, although not a particularly flattering one for women. Here he is, flying around all care free, single, etc and then gets pestered by a one-nighter for more commitment, then decides to give a relationship a try - because everyone keeps telling him how shallow and lonely he is - only to be shot down by an empowered, but ultimately dishonest, chick who just wants to have her bit on the side. The main women in the movie are either cheating liars or naive, which is disappointing. A good yarn though, a nice uncomplicated plot, very snappy film sequences (going through security at the start is amusing), and even a tad thought provoking - maybe moreso for someone like me about to tie the knot.
