SQ A330 power loss in both engines [restarted] during cruise

A report on power loss in both engines of SQ A330 during flight from SIN-PVG over the weekend. Flight landed safely.

I'm surprised this isn't bigger news - and no reports from passengers. Also surprised it didn't divert to HKG.

Some of the comments on Avherald speculate about ice crystals. But it is all of course speculation.

Very rare. Last one AFAIK was 1982 with the BA 747 losing all 4 engines.

Interesting that the pilots chose to continue on to shanghai as well given they were right over hkg

I can add BA flight 38 (B777) that pancaked just short of the runway in LHR. Investigations revealed ice in the fuel/oil heat exchanger system. This A/C was also fitted with RR Trent engines. Unfortunately that did not have as happy an ending as SQ. May have been a different outcome if they had a longer approach and the ice had a chance to melt.

I can only think of high altitude ice crystals or a fuel flow problem that the crew were able to rectify.

Concerned that after 4 hours on the ground they flew the return leg.
