SQ Alliance - What is happening?

Just an update, the government today announced that it supports [-]and approves the alliance.[/-]

The full tick hasn't been given yet, though at this stage highly unlikely they won't get it.

The comment of "bigger aircraft" and "increased frequency" looks interesting. A A330 and B777 in terms of seat capacity aren't very different (especially if we line up a VA 777 and a SQ 2-class A330). "Increased frequency" - will this come from SQ or VA?

Also, when they measure more flights / options, do they mean that something like ADL-MNL via SIN will be considered as a new route / seat ("Adelaide to Manila"), even though it really will just mean more flights to SIN by SQ or VA and delegating increased demand from SQ for the SIN-MNL leg?

Spooky how we talk about the submissions one day, and there's an article in the paper the next

The government has approved, but the ACCC has not, yet.... They are 2 different things.

Does anyone know if the planned alliance will allow Velocity members to accrue status credits on SQ flights? We're off to the UK in Dec ... hopefully it's all approved by then!

I'd say highly likely given that you can earn status credits on their other partner airlines such as Etihad and AirNZ.

I guess it will be once this is all finalised that points should be able to be used from SQ for V Aus flights too, is that right?
I have a few SQ miles from the Krisflyer CC I'm keen to use in OZ before they expire!

Sorry to resurrect on old thread, but this is the only one linked to the DJ master thread

Cautionary tale: if you hold both SQ and DJ FF, don't put your SQ number anywhere near your booking or else it may takes months to get the SC's/points to credit across (some have said not possible but the SQ angels finally smiled upon me after an 'appeal' through SQ)

I acknowledge some of my ignorance in this, I was just going on the advice of my TA, confirmed by check in counter, but when it came time for the points to credit, they had gone to SQ.

I've seen cautions like this on other thread, perhaps someone could put a link in this one.

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

Thanks for the word of warning. I'm flying SQ on Friday and wanting to credit to DJ, however my SQ number is showing up on the booking. What is the best way to change it to DJ? Call? Tried changing online but didn't give me the option.

When you check-in, present your Velocity card and have the agent make the change. Then when the boarding pass is printed check again that your velocity number is showing and not the SQ number.

Cheers, thought that may be the case.

I have had 3 out of 4 sectors in a flight credit successfully to velocity after asking at checkin, even though the boarding pass had my SQ number. Of couse, that 4th sector is turning out to be quite an annoying problem to solve (particularly when the SCs might be the different between plat and gold!)...

I'd try calling as a starting point, unless your journey is starting from Changi. In my experience, check in agents outside Singapore have no end of problems getting the right number to stick in the system.

Or you can get the agent to manually remove the SQ number and enter your velocity number. Works and stays the way it is 100% of the time.

Guys,

I've just been looking for my DJ card but no luck, do I actually have to present the card? I can obviously supply my number to the agent. Will call SQ tommorow anyway but thought I'd check.

Cheers

This happened to me going to UK 3 months back, lost wallet, no card etc.... Velocity sent me a letter of introduction by e-mail signed by the head of Velocity. They don't guarantee it will work but then if you have the tags on your bag as well it helps. Worked a treat for me with EK, they let me through without issue.

Argh - so in the last 2 months or so I've had 8 SQ legs, and so far have had 2 credit to SQ (which seems like it will be an immense pain to fix), 5 VA (woo!) and 1 go nowhere. The one which went nowhere was upgraded from Y to J using Krisflyer points, so I can understand it being a problem, but the two flights going to SQ despite asking at every check in to put it on VA is getting annoying... Particularly when those flights would be the difference between VA gold and plat!

My advice to anyone taking SQ flights and crediting to VA is to take great care to make sure your KF number is nowhere near the booking. Particularly, don't book when you're logged into the SQ web site...

When I booked on SQ for flights a few months ago I booked it on the SQ website and not logged into KF. MIles & SC's were in my VA account within 48 hours. Now the only thing I should have done is booked the flights via the VA website so as to have te flights with VA flight numbers and that way I would have gotten credit for eligible sectors as well. Next time!

My experience also. Book the SQ flight outside of the Kris Flyer login page. When you come to fill in passenger details for your selected flight(s), do not login to your Kris Flyer account.
Under the SQ booking Passenger 1 details boxes, open the FF Membership drop down and then select Virgin Australia - Velocity (which is at the bottom of the popdown list) then enter your DJ FF member number. Each flight's SCs and miles were credited to Velocity within 2 days.

My question relates to you second point. On VA website, a flight MEL to KUL shows two sectors connecting in SIN. (SQ metal MEL-SIN; with MI metal, SIN-KUL) Both with VA code numbers. Would this be considered 2 eligible VA/DJ Velocity sectors , or only 1 eligible sector ? - cheers, PJ

I carry SQ Gold and have no problem getting miles on DJ flights into my Krisflyer account. Lounge access does not work if you are flying DJ out of NZ.

Has anyone done the research on whether it is better to rack the miles up on SQ or DJ? I don't have much status on DJ so I stick with Sq for now.

Stick with SQ if you want to fly on SQ metal in anything other than Y.
