SQ Book the Cook - issued

My Book The Cook meal on a recent flight had special ingredients - plastic fragments about the size of my little finger. It (the meal) was still delicious though and the crew gave me a $75 inflight voucher as a goodwill gesture...

Ew...that is special and not in a good way

You still ate it after finding out? or was the plastic on the bottom and you only saw it after it was finished?

I saw it before I started eating so I just removed the 2 pieces and made sure there were none left...

Had lobster ex-Mel in F and it didn't look terribly appealing but taste a lot. The missus had the lobster SIN-SGN in J and it looked a lot better than mine in F, but tasted just NQR.

Re: SQ Book the Cook - issue

I had a similar quality issue with BTC on SQ flying LHR-SIN just now (I'm sat in the lounge at Changi typing this!).

I had pre-booked the fillet steak which was served basically raw. They offered to cook it "a bit more" but it still came back uncooked apart from a 1-2 millimetre seared edge on the outside of the strak, so I switched to the salmon. The photo is AFTER it was re-cooked

If they'd put out a call for a vet, there's a good chance that it could have been brought back to life...

Had Wagyu sirloin SIN-MEL in F and it was probably cooked to medium. I prefer rare to medium rare. Would have loved to have your steak Caversham.

I had the Boston lobster from SYD-SIN in F a couple of weeks ago (and back in May). For "airplane food" it was ok, but I think there are better options. The nut crusted lamb in J from SIN to SYD on the way back was beautiful. We have SYD-SIN-ICN-LAX and LAX-NRT-SIN-SYD in F booked for July, and we are trying all different dishes on that trip, trying to choose items that would be better for that area (or avoid dishes that wouldn't be good for that area).

I recently flew on SQ242 SYD-SIN in First and SQ26 SIN-(FRA)-JFK in Suites and had BTC on all flights.

On SQ242 you could only BTC for the first meal, where I had the roast rack of lamb. Tasty meal but my lamb was cold.

On SQ26 from SIN to FRA I had the the Kyo-Kaiseki for supper and poached egg for breakfast. The Kyo-Kaiseki wasn't to my taste and the poached egg was nice, but seems to be the same as what they would have on Y.

On the FRA to JFK sector I had the Lobster Thermidor and 7oz Beef Fillet. The lobster was ok, not enough butter but the saffron rice was very dry. The beef fillet was beautiful, my favourite meal on board of my three flights.

Do people reckon its better to BTC, or just rely on the inflight menu and have the surprise factor also?
I have a F/R flight booked from NRT-SIN-SYD and am torn as to whether I should go BTC or not!! o_O

No need for a surprise. Most of the flights have the menu online in the same section as btc
