Going to fly biz from sg to syd in August. departure time is 12:45 am and in my booking, i can only see meal selection for supper only. Does that mean only one meal will be served for the 8hr flight?

Correct, SQ refers to these late night SIN to OZ flights as sleeper service and only one meal selection via BTC or on board menu. I.e. dinner or breakfast. In saying that recently flew SIN to ADL and had BTC dinner (Barramundi) , later in the flight , when serving breakfast , FAs proactively offered us fresh fruit and pastries with coffees. Great SQ experience once again.

thanks but thats so strange especially given its a business class. so basically, if i have BTC for supper then no breakfast will be served? Am i better just have the breakfast and skip the BTC supper? really want to experience the BTC but then i will probably have dinner before the flight.

They will offer fruit and pastry as luckypierre said but it definitely won't be a proper meal. You can choose to have your BTC meal as the breakfast. If you have dinner before the flight just get a cup of noodles or something from the snack offerings instead when they serve the first meal service.

On those late night flights they usually feed you as soon as the seat belt sign goes off then turn the lights off and disappear until the breakfast service a couple of hours before landing.

I find it pretty average to only get one meal in Y let alone J, especially when other carriers on similar length routes give you two full meals.

The idea is to give people time to sleep, typically from take off to landing is about 6:45-7:00 hrs on that flight. You can select to have the meal for breakfast - either one of the breakfast options from the inflight menu/book the cook - or even one of the options that you wouldn't typically eat at breakfast, and indicate to crew you will take it at breakfast time.

It is definitely an abbreviated service as no appetiser or dessert with the meal. IIRC, you can ask for both supper and breakfast onboard if there's any spare meals and crew are flexible enough.

This is why I like Etihad’s “any time” service. I had breakfast at 2am once.

Yep, that’s why “dine on demand” makes for a superior experience, especially on long-haul and/or overnight flights.

Having said that, whenever I’ve boarded an after-midnight flight I’ve regretted ordering the meal; all I’ve wanted to do is sleep as soon as possible, so I can see where the airline is coming from. In future my philosophy most of the time will be to eat in the lounge and sleep on the plane until the breakfast service.

I wonder how many other pax you woke up while having an 0200 breakfast? And was that based on your departure or arrival time? But, then again, depends a bit on your body clock and ultimate destination. I prefer day flights or, if on an overnight meal timings based on arrival time. Plenty of good food in the lounge before an overnight.

Well I was in a first class cabin surrounded by other closed cabins, so maybe not disturbing. No, I just woke up and fancied breakfast. I wasn’t the only one awake either.

On my SQ flights back to Aus, I do wish they did have a full breakfast available. I'm ready for sleep after the seatbelt sign goes off. It's my criticism of SQ actually - please have options of dinner and breakfast and let me choose if I want both, neither or one or the other!

The "have more time to sleep" notion goes out of the window when they insist on waking you up 2 hours before landing for breakfast....

Having flown with dine-on-demand a few times, I now find service on trolleys through J class clunky and very disruptive. Plus I find the crew are more stressed - even the flawless SQ attendants can show cracks during a meal service.

On these sleeper flights I usually book-the-chef for something delicious and tell the cabin crew I intend to go to bed as soon as allowed after take-off and that I would like my booked meal for breakfast. This way you get a good nights sleep, and delicious food to start the day.
