SQ Business Savers...going, going gone???

You would assume this is the case, and in the current climate its probably a greater chance than if times were good for SQ.

I wiatlisted on a 50% discount saver J fare on SQ in July (JNB-SIN) and the waitlist cleared !! 22k points is all i paid. Only a 772 though :( Still never know when you may end up with and aircraft substitution and any J seat is better than whY + the price is good !

So any updates yet to SQ releasing saver awards in J on the A380 etc ?

+1 for me....

SQ website still says no go to this... Pity because I'm looking for a place to put some MR points but sounds like Krisflyer isn't such a good home according to the posts here!

That depends on where you want to fly.

The destinations that you can get Saver J's to provide excellent value.....and don't forget that you can also redeem om *A airlines via SQ for J often at pretty attractive rates, and in some cases exceptional rates.

If the number of routes that you can redeem Saver J's on continues to decline then that will make it more of a concern as Standard Awards are not so good value.

I guess the value of Standard Awards depends on what you compare to. If it's a matter of credit card points at 1 pt/$1, and choice between SQ and QF, from SYD/MEL to Europe, QF classic J award and SQ Standard J award is the same number of miles.

With the A380's on MEL route, Savers are now only available on 1 of the 3 services. Certainly no sign of any change in the policy re Saver awards on the 380/77W product. BNE & PER probably best chances for Saver Awards now.

Can you share some of these destination names?

How does the old SQ J class compare to the Skybed Mk1?

By old SQ J, I assume you mean "spacebeds", and not the very old regional J product. It is very similar to skybed Mk1, perhaps the QF seat being slightly better (it was introduced a couple of years after SQ's), in that it has a design edge to it, and the cocoon feel. It feels like the SQ bed maybe slightly shorter but slightly wider than the QF seat, and I'd perhaps rate the SQ seat slightly more comfortable for sitting in. But (having flown both of them multiple times), in practical terms I would not go out of my way to pick one over the other.

Haven't experienced the new regional J, which I believe is an improvement on the "spacebed", but still angled lie flat. It looks pretty good though and the IFE is excellent (my sole experience on the SQ A330 has been up the back). From appearances I would rate it better than skybed mkI, but not mkII (I'll take fully flat over angled lie flat unless there are some serious flaws in the fully flat.)

Caveat...I have been looking for destinations to where I am interested in travelling to.

I fly out of MEL.

So this Xmas I am off to Vietnam. Saver J's can be had via SIN to Hanoi and Saigon (and I believe to Danang as well). As Vietnam is a long skinny country I have booked one-ways online to Saigon and out of Hanoi.

Next July I am flying into Europe at Manchester , UK and am going overland to fly out of Amsterdam.

I could have also flown into Rome, Athens, Copenhagen, Frankfurt or Istanbul and intend to do this Xmas 2010. However from doing trial bookings Rome always seems to go very quickly.

On availablity, 4 J seats to SIN is quite easy if booked a long way out. But from SIN to Europe only 2 ever seem to be available in advance. So I had to split my party of 4 for that leg.

For Vietnam I had no difficulty in getting 4 J seats.

As for *A via SQ I have not yet booked, but from posts on this forum and other one can fly to Europe with *A (150 K in J with lower fuel fines than SQ. SQ points less though at 127.5 K if booked on-line) ....and in particular Australia to the South Pacific destinations on Air New Zealand are fantastic value with low fuel fines.

I just redeemed one-way CAN-SIN-SYD in J in early January for 38250 points 1 way (15% discount). SIN-SYD leg is on the new 73A which has the new Regional J.

I always find SQ have much more availability than QF in terms of awards for Asia (not so much for Europe), especially true for peak seasons such as Xmas and January. That's why I focus on gaining SQ points as my next few trips are around Asia. Of course, lovetravellingoz mentioned, it has excellent value for redeeming NZ Aust-South Pacific J awards (absolute bargain for Aussies, especially the ones in WA).

I would like to know too. The rumour says September but that's been and gone. We're going to HKG over Easter, and have decided to redeem on TG. Not interested in making an additional stop via SYD/ADL/BNE so this will have to do. Plus with the BKK-HKG segment in F I get to explore their 'new' Flounge facilities at BKK which is supposedly very good, with resto, spa and all.

Of course if the SQ218 (77W) departure miraculously opens up for *A/Saver awards, we'll be rebooking in a hurry!

I was able to book 2 business class SQ saver tickets on the 77W SYD-SIN in August. Maybe it was an error but they were available for seats on several consecutive days and remained on the website for around 3 days.
I had heard they occasionally pop up so I just kept checking every day.

Great so now I have to check SQ and QF everyday for the mysterious seats :shock::shock:

Was it for travel in August or later? If later, is the sector still being serviced by a 77W?

I managed to get myself a business saver on SQ218 (operated by 77W) for travel in May(09). A week later and the plane operating the service for the whole of May morphed into a 777-200ER, and I am sure that is why the business saver fares were released into the system. :( (Thankfully a seat on the afternoon 747 flight came available which I moved to).

Hope you were luckier.

I booked it about 3 weeks before travel and we flew in August. When I booked it I expected an aircraft change as this had happened to me before with a standard redemption (77W changed to new regional J). However the seats were available on the 50% off promo rate so I grabbed it anyway.

There was no aircraft change, our first flight in the new business class was just awesome, couldn't believe my luck

Wow that was a steal with 50% off too boot. Good on you. :p:p

Ugh.... wish they would just make a decision, either way.

SQ is sounding too labour intensive for me so far.... Might have to look at Virgin Atlantic FC more closely.

I don't mind if 218 turns into a 772ER or 744. So long as it isn't an old regional a/c I'm cool, as it means I get to fly SQ rather than TG. We simply require a midnight departure out of MEL on 31MAR (thus saving a day's annual leave and getting to HKG in time for Happy Valley races) and unfortunately TG is the only option given the 77W is for the most part unavailable for *A redemptions. And to think I've sworn off TG long haul after a horrendous experience back in 2006....:/
