Maybe already known on here, but there is now an opportunity to earn more VFF points and SC it seems, just seen SQ now will stop CBR - WLG direct flights, but will put in MEL - WLG instead, all starting from SIN of course.
Will want to see and feel the SQ KF MEL lounge one of the these days.
Service starts soon, May 3 this year, still only 4 days a week, but now with a proper SQ lounge access rights with J/F or subclasses of these, bliss.

Interesting development. So effectively SQ288 now rotates SIN-SYD-CBR-SIN and SQ247/248 now routes SIN-MEL-WEL-MEL-SIN.

Note also some aircraft type changes
247/248 now a 777-200 (not a 330)

288 a 777-300ER

This is interesting (though not entirely surprising) news. Look forward to trying out SQ for a few days in WLG. Great flight times to/from MEL too. Always welcome a new way to use Velocity...

NZ already operates between WLG and MEL/SYD but makes some sense as VA only operates between BNE and WLG

Shame. I know many people who utilised this for a weekend away. Often cheaper than getting to Brisbane, Tassie (or anywhere from CBR really).

F service from CBR @Flying mermaid
ooh - thank-you for drawing my attention to this. :)

I do want to try the new F, so that would still mean going to Sydney, but this is very attractive.

The main thing stopping me from flying SQ from Canberra was that they had angled beds and overnight flights, so this is definitely a win.

Thought it may have interested you :)

Sadly I have a reward redemption flight using UA miles for WLG-CBR for 2 J and 2 Y on 10/8/18. It is a free leg flight where we redeem an Asia-NZ and Aus-Asia "return" flights, for a free flight within the sector.

Does anyone have any suggestion as to what would be best to do? We have visited Melbourne before and prefers not to go there again, and Sydney is where we want to go this time(that's why we chose to Canberra as it is close enough to Sydney by coach/train).

Thanks heaps in advance. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

I'm excited! We plan to go to SG once a year for our family trip and this works well
Article here
Singapore Airlines is making some big changes to its Canberra flights

It says here "Heading out of Australia, the aircraft will depart Sydney at 8.10pm, stop in Canberra for 70 minutes, depart, at 10.20 pm and arrive in Singapore about 5.15am local time. "

Does this mean, I can still board at CBR into first class?
cheers
i think that’s the idea. You can board in Sydney with a short stop in Canberra, or board in Canberra for just the journey to Singapore. Coming back it’s the other way. You can stop in Sydney, or continue all the way to Canberra.

Now if only SQ still flew to South America, I would be right for next year!

Hmmm, is it still a night flight though isn't it. I guess I can get 'hammered' then sleep it off.
CBR to SG is night
SG to SYD is day

It is but the big difference is it now has flat beds in J (as opposed to angled flat, which Mr FM hates), and it has F. I have no objection to night flights, if there is a decent bed and getting into Singapore early, makes connections better as well.

At least I get to try these angled beds . We booked j this April for all of us. Then I’ll know how good the new ones are! (First time flying anything better then cattle class !)

thats the right way to do it - you will probably think they are wonderful :). Enjoy the experience!

The parents took the CBR-SIN flight for their last EU holiday (and are looking at the QR CBR-SYD-DOH for their next).

It seems unusual for SQ to have the same flight number for the entire SIN-SYD-CBR-SIN route.

Realistically, I suspect your only option would be to re-route onto the WLG-MEL flight with SQ or request a refund.

If Air NZ has availability WLG-SYD then you could possibly re-route to fly CHC-WLG-SYD, but there will be no business class.

It's only an hour-long flight to fly from Melbourne to Sydney or Canberra, so not the end of the world.
