Do we know if MEL-WLG will be a newer (even suite) style of J, or will it be 2-2-2 seats (or similar)?

I got the KF eDM the other day which was talking about the changes and showed photos of the new 773 product, so can only assume it'll be the nice, new 1-2-1 seats.

MEL-WLG will be a 772. Angled 2-2-2.

I was excited when I read this that hopefully they would update the 777 to WEL with a product that features PE, but no :(

If they did I would give them all my business to Asia and Melbourne in a second. So bored of the AirNZ A320s and the tired Jetconnect 737s.

Well tonight was the last ever SQ292 service from Wellington to Canberra.

I will miss the direct service from CBR to New Zealand. Hopefully someone will start CBR-AKL flights soon!

A shame I never got to fly on it :(

Routes to NZ out of Canberra could really only support an aircraft of an E170 size and only Air North (who currently has a regional NT and QLD focus) operates E170's in Australia.

The stats don't lie and typically SQ was only carrying 90-100 passengers exclusively between CBR and WLG per leg.

I still believe there is enough demand for a 3x weekly B737/A320 service between CBR and AKL. That's equivalent to ~500 seats per week in each direction. The O&D demand for CBR-AKL would be greater than CBR-WLG, which was already getting ~400 passengers per week, so I expect these seats to be filled.

My money is on Air New Zealand eventually starting a service. Not only would they pick up O&D traffic, but they could also time the flights to connect to their North/South American services (i.e. a mid-morning departure from AKL, turning around in CBR around noon). So they'd pick up a bit of connecting traffic as well.

If Virgin can make a 3x weekly Brisbane-Dunedin service work, then surely Canberra-Auckland can work!
