SQ have now formally launched their inflight connectivity option with news that every long haul aircraft will have it:

Singapore Airlines (SQ) has launched OnAir inflight connectivity, part of a $50 million entertainment upgrade across its long-haul fleet.
The inflight connectivity is now available on 14 of its aircraft, including five Airbus A340-500s, plus a mixture of A380 and Boeing 777-300 aircraft, SQ told ATW. Over the next two years, SQ will roll out the service across all of its long-haul A380-800, A340-500 and 777-300ER aircraft.

Amazing stuff, yet they still can't get their desktop website to load bookings made by an agent.

I'm on SQ232 next week but I won't get my hopes up...

This was available on my flight from SIN-LHR in early August. IIRC, the price was $11 USD for 90Mb or something like that. I didn't try it out though.

10mb: Us$11.95
26mb: Us$29.95

10mb: Us$11.95
26mb: Us$29.95

Promotional prices now are:
10MB: US $10
30MB: US $25

Would be quite useful for those important people who *have* to check their emails in-flight. I can see it being a hit with businessmen and government officials. Once it reaches a critical mass it should become quite cheap. Then there'll be no rest from facebook.

I am not sure it will become cheap, satellite delivery makes sure of that!

I can see it being a hit with businessmen and government officials.

Our company expense policy specifically calls out in flight internet as something that cannot be claimed as a business expense. I was tempted on my flight to LHR, as I was indeed working all the way to LHR (to save a day's leave, and amuse myself during the long day flight), and I couldn't claim, there was no way (on principle) I would connect to do work emails! But to be honest, I was glad to not have the interruption of the email traffic. It's sorta nice being isolated from the world for 13 hours.

In other words, unless it is going through a blackberry server with compressing, don't bother?

Or back to the good old days of "download headers" when using dial up.:!: I assume that can still be done in outlook and other mail services.
