First post and I know this one is a little niche but worth highlighting considering how expensive one way Y from Japan can be.

Singapore Airlines has cheap J flights from Japan, including HND/NRT, KIX and cough through Feb and March. Osaka has the best availability for me with a J ticket to Melbourne via Singapore costing just ¥157,670 (~$1600 aud). The booking UI doesn’t offer the free stopover but using multi city it was only ¥5000 ($50) more.

Note that only Tokyo airports have the long haul business class product while other airports use the regional config, all lie flat though

I was on it today, KIX-SIN-SYD, and did indeed pay just over $1500 in Nov 23.

The 787-10 KIX-SIN is a very weird little seat, almost J-lite, but I flew out at 2330 and slept literally the whole way, it was so pleasant!

There are also no crowds at KIX that time of night, so curb to Sakura lounge, including the airport shuttle, only took about 20 mins.

Departing Tokyo it could also be the regional J seats, certainly my flight SQ633 back in May was. I prefer this seat to the long haul version though.
I paid 154K Yen for the one way ticket.

Plenty of these fares extend June/July/August 2025 ex KIX or cough with slightly less availability ex HND/NRT. At a cursory look prices range from $1690 - $1800 for MEL, SYD (A380 second leg), ADL, BNE.

I flew this route in June (KIX > SIN > SYD) - Overnight flight with a small layover in SIN, however there are varying layover times depending on which flight you pick. Amazing deal for the A380 J on the SIN > SYD leg. The seats are so wide compared to the 787 regional J

From recollection SQ operates 3 daily flights from KIX to SIN so your layover will vary depending on your connecting flight. So consider whether you want to see everything Changi has to offer or just get back to MEL.

The KIX to SIN route is on the 787 with the regional business configuration however SIN to MEL you could nab the 777 which has the better J seat. Someone correct me if I’m wrong on that.

thanks for the advise went and booked SQ237 - 777 yesterday based on my pre-covid experience, unsure the seats are still the same, but i do feel the A350 seats are somewhat odd/weird and not as spacious as 777.
